yes Continuity for one which I always like,plus he showed a connection Twiligth had to the human world world beside her friends,he symbolized the feeling of the school and the transformational effect they had under the dazzling spell with his once affectionate but turned Direct hatred in a way that went beyond physical(like the other students sabatoge which the band brushed off easily) but into emotional distress for Band espaclly Twiligth already under stress. He also served to help show Sunsets character in the beginning when she talked about her relationships.
