Alternate character costumes.
There just isn’t that Halloween spirit.
Discord is a sadist, which makes him the closest to her opposite.
Other than that, she didn’t really have any kind of connection to her opponents.
Nope. No one has a reason to harbor a grudge against Flutters. Unfortunately.
Valid points, true.
So does Fluttershy have a dedicated antagonist for herself at all? That red dragon kinda lacks character, and Discord… well, he’s a complicated case, you know?
The initial cause of the episode’s conflict was Fluttershy’s shyness. Iron Will himself could have been replaced with a pamphlet.
This wasn’t the only episode in the series with no villain, though. Still, something that I liked that episode is that the writers avoided the temptation to make Iron Will a villain. He was a reasonable man that was just doing his job from start to finish. And his job, ultimately, was to help people.
If he’d heard about Fluttershy pushing people around, he probably would have tried to get her to stop, when you get down to it.
Antagonist in the context that he was the initial cause of the episode’s conflict. Although only with the catalyst of Fluttershy taking things in the wrong direction. And I rather liked the fact that the episode had no clear-cut ‘bad guy’.
Not really, no. He tried to help Fluttershy, just the same as Pinkie Pie and Rarity. Fluttershy’s excessive aggression was not Iron Will’s fault. As Fluttershy herself said, she was the monster. She was the one that was letting her anger get the best of her.
Iron Will, by contrast, was always reasonable.
Correct.
Sure, Trixie may have tormented Twilight’s friends specifically, but that’s because they were just that - Twilight’s friends. She was aiming for Twilight all the time. It was personal.
Similarly, Gilda was the antagonist to Pinkie - both wanted to have Dash as their friend, but Gilda wanted exclusive rights, while Pinkie knows that sharing is more fun.
Fluttershy as Iron Will works. While he’s not really evil, he was the antagonist for the episode. He brought both good changes and bad to her - and the episode ended when she learned to accept the good changes (be more assertive) but rejecting the bad (don’t be a jerk about it).
AJ is a bit impersonal, but maybe she has a more storied antagonism against the timberwolves offscreen. The alternative would be to dress like the Flim Flam brothers, and those were less ‘scary’ and more ‘douchey’.
I don’t think that’s the kind of connection mooncalf was talking about lol
That was cool XD
Pinkie had her mouth Deleted by Trixie in Magic Duel
And yet, we see Pinkie as Trixie.
Well, not anymore…
But Fluttershy has no emotional connection with Gilda, just as Pinkie has none with Trixie. For Fluttershy, Gilda was just yet another scary thing, nothing more.
but if so, I have no idea what to put Pinkie in
