Spike had warmed up to Sharp rather quickly, no longer hesitant to become friends with the blue dragon. Sharp was surprised at first but grew accustomed to the Spikes overbearing demeanor The roles swapped between the two, with Spike taking the initiative and Sharp letting Spike dictate the flow of the afternoon.
They spent the rest of the late afternoon enjoying Spikes gem-encrusted cookies, and Spike probing Sharp for details about the dragon culture and what it was like to live in the ridge. Sharp confirmed Spikes suspicions that dragons were mostly solitary creatures, having no real aspirations beyond collecting stuff and being left alone. Sometimes younger dragons formed squads as a means to find food in a group setting, but once a dragon grew big enough to support themselves, theyd split off to be on their own.
“What about you Sharp? Were you in a squad? Your seem to be around my age, do dragons my age start living in solitude? Spike inquired.
“Wellnot exactly,” Sharp began to explain tentatively, “I was in a squad, but we had just split up right when the word got out that dragons had gone missing, I was..”
BBBURRRPPP Spike rather rudely interrupted Sharps story with his fire breath message system between him the Pony Princess. He spewed forth a glowing green flame from which a tied up scroll poofed at the end and landed on the floor. Sharp gave Spike a small clap for his feat of magic.
“Whoa, usually fire breath makes scrolls burn up, not appear from smoke.” Sharp noted amused. “Thats a neat trick, how do ya do it?”
Spike blushed, I not entirely sure, I just had a spell cast on me when I was younger, and now I can send scrolls and receive scrolls from the pony princesses.
“Really, thats a message from the leader of Equestria? Whats it say?
Spike cleared his throat, Spike, Weve safely arrived at the diplomatic summit with the Griffon Kingdom. As you know, the negotiations and talks will be lengthy, so please dont try to destroy the place while Im gone, and no big crazy adventures. I know youre older now and can handle yourself, and I cant always be there to stop you, but to me youll always be my baby dragon assistant, so try and keep the adventures small okay? See you in a months time. Your friend, Twilight.
“Wow, thats actually really convenient.” Sharp observed, sending messages almost instantly, over thousands of miles, thats pretty cool.
Spike pulled out his own scroll and feather pen and began to write down his reply to Twilight, Yeah, it sure is convenient, though it only works between me and one of the Alicorns, so its not like I can just send messages to anyone at anytime. He finished his message, rolled it up and blew his fire breath on it. It evaporated into a green smoke as it flew out the cave entrance and out into the open sky.
“So what did ya write on it?” Sharp asked.
Spike smugly smiled, Not to worry and thatd Id keep my adventures small. He gave a wink, and he and Sharp shared a giggle as they returned to their original conversation.
