I think you’re overdramatizing the drama just a bit.
Indeed, Amoung my most cherrished memories are ones having to do with local fairs and such, everything so big and exciting tons of fun and yet rather intimidating. (granted I have always been a bit short and rather timid).
So many sites and smells that are sure to imprint themselves on a person and then how much more it its possibly one of the last memories at all of a lost one.

There actually is quite a bit of drama going on in the Sonic fanbase right now, especially over Princess Sally getting a “new look” in the official Sonic comic. (And you know how much Sonic fans LOVE change.) Only, unlike the “alicorn Twilight” drama, it’s still going on…

But seriously, drama over a HAT ?
Does the community need to make drama over every little thing that destroys fanon or when there are big canon changes?
Seriously. I’ve seen better drama from the sonic fandom than this.
