How in the name of Bo Diddley did her toy get ripped? 1 thing’s for sure: she really has some good tailorship skills. She must have been a tailor before she became Princess.

Dunno, I interpret it as a Mother / Daughter relationship too. I’ve already got a mom, but I’ve also got an aunt who treats me like her own son, so I can see it happening. It’s a love thing, yo. All kinds of love out there.

That’s because magic and studying are practically hobbies to Twilight (albeit to the point of obsession, but I digress.), those are probably the most exciting things she can think to talk about. And one doesn’t have to, but she might, and the relationship so looks like a little more close than your standard teacher/student relationship, but that’s just how I interpret it.

Nope. What did she want to talk about at the gala? Magic. In other words, her studies. And one doesn’t have to consider someone parental figure to respect his or her opinion. One may also respect opinion of (former) teacher.

Well at the Gala she also wanted to be close to her, not as a teacher and student relationship but as something more. And that’s saying nothing on how much Twilight regards and respects her opinion, as if she were a parental figure (evidenced best by when she was at the wedding, and after her falling out with her brother Celestia’s disapproval was really drove the nail through her heart.).

Whoops, my theory, which was made up in about 50 seconds, doesn’t hold water. How sad XD  
Although, on the other hand, it only prooves that Twilight is casual with Celestia - not that she is like a daughter to her. She also just beat up the goddess of darkness and darkness-related genocide, so perhaps she expected praise and pat on the head (Twilight simply run towards Celestia, who initiates the hug)

Season 1 Episode 2, After the Mane 6 use the Elements to beat Nightmare Moon, when Celestia appears, while the rest of the Mane 6 bow, Twilight just runs up and nuzzles her.

I don’t want to rain on your parade, but there is no evidence that Twilight and Celestia were close, or that Celestia was like a second mother to her. I never really understood why everyone considers this theory canon.  
Twilight doesn’t seem to know Celestia that well and her behaviour points to her relationship with Celestia being purely professional - she mostly thinks of it in terms of being a failure or succeeding - so it’s likely she only met the princess during private lessons about advanced magic and tapping into her latent potential, and this was after several years of learning basics at Celestia’s school.  
Or Celestia is really evil, strict and extremely indifferent towards psychological well-being of children.

@FlutterLove: True. Not to mention, we don’t know how often Cadence babysat for Twilight, especially since Celestia took her in as her private student later on. Both Cadence and Celestia may have done their fair share in raising Twilight.

Well we can only pray season 3 gives Celestia(and Luna) more character development.

It’s a shame because it kind of throws Celestia under the bus as a character. There’s all sorts of room for character development when you play the “mother of her people” angle, but apparently that’s not the case. Celestia really is just a plot device, and that’s sad.

I still think that Celestia had a hand in raising Twilight, after all Twilight is her personal pupil. Celestia probably looked after Twilight if Cadance was busy.
