To be fair, there wasn’t really an 8-bit or previous console war. At least in the US, the Atari VCS (2600) and later the NES had absolute dominance (Nintendo’s partly due to abuse of their monopoly position post-crash), while in Europe and South America, the Master System was undisputed. We didn’t really see “console wars” as we know them until the fourth generation, with the famous “Genesis does…” campaign.

Even though I was born in 1987, that (the Atari VCS/Atari 2600) was my first console as well. It was probably my father’s before my parents gave it to me.

I haven’t finished most of the games I own on steam.

I haven’t touched my consoles in months after a couple Steam sales happened… And I haven’t even played half the games I purchased. It’s shameful, really.

I’m going to avoid the retarded PC vs console debate*, and focus on what the description says:

If anything, 2013 will be the year that the preemptive GOTY became egregiously misused. Granted, GTA V deserves it more than Bioshock Infinite and the other mediocre AAA releases, but what about The Last of Us? The Last of Us comes across as far more innovative than GTA V, because GTA V doesn’t really push the envelope.
 
GTA V is a modest step up from GTA IV compared to the large stride from GTA: VC to GTA: SA; hell, I’d argue that this generation’s SA would be Red Dead Redemption in terms of really pushing the engine and the gameplay to the limit for Rockstar. I’m not saying that GTA V will be a bad game; quite the contrary, as it will probably be a great game, but GOTY it is not _{(which is why I’m flummoxed as to why people are getting angry at certain reviewers for not giving it a perfect score)}.
 
*I’m primarily a PC gamer, but also own a 360 and PS3.

Lately PC master race really seems to translate as whiny childish idiots. And just looking at these comments here… Really? Gamer Luna is not a true gamer because she doesn’t limit herself just to a one gaming platform? While there’s no single correct definition for a true gamer, it’s still funny to think that true gamer would be someone who only has one gaming platform now when there’s plenty of them.
 
Yes, I play using both PC and consoles and often I seem to be some kind of an anomaly for these PC “master race” people. It’s possible to use both. Really it is.
 
I too got my copy of GTA V today and will play and enjoy it and later when it comes to PC I will likely buy it for PC too just to have fun with mods and stuff.

Put ICEmods on GTAIV and it is quite nice looking. You still need a beat rig to run it at 60fps, though. Saints Row the Third had much better graphics and runs like butter, though it feels more like a cartoon and GTAIV is more lifelike (assuming you have ICE installed so it doesn’t look like a giant fart cloud has overtaken the city).

In addition, the main disadvantage of PC gaming is that cheap computers (My laptop is from 2003) will fuck themselves if you try playing games that aren’t nearly as old as the person using it; with a console, the only reason a game won’t work is either damage or defects.

Same here. And while I am now mostly a PC gamer, holy shit this is some grade A PC master race arrogance right here. Goddamn if you want to wait for the PC port fine, but just tossing one of the greatest games to date (and yes I have it and have played it at this point, so I can say that honestly) is beyond stupid. Not to mention GTA’s track record on PC ain’t too hot (even though I will admit it looks like they’ve gotten their shit together on that for the most part).
