Description

Just something I realized whilst writing this fic. Basically ships in the FIM universe have got to be either made of some sort of super wood or have some other form of protection, since ponies are such powerful little wrecking machines (especially the flying ones).

Ironclads could certainly be a possibility I guess. And I forget that not all Pegasi are like Dash. Although many can make tornadoes which is certainly a dangerous ability.

If you’re going to bring up sight gags, you should remember that they are under something of a compulsion not to make sense, or to follow the physics of the setting.

@Applelight Limited
Oh, I’m not denying that the ponies are strong, but they aren’t as strong as you’re implying.

Not on a regular basis, anyway. Rainbow is explicitly an unusually capable pony and Poundcake was implied to have super strength, even by the standards of the setting.

We haven’t seen pony warships, but they have the technology to be using ironsides rather than using just wooden ships. Pegasi and unicorn forces also imply that blitzkrieg tactics and magic usage are important, so ships may be more along the lines of carriers than destroyers.

And I think one of the cake twins smashed a metal bath tap clean off.

I know it’s a cartoon with cartoon physics in full effect but it’s something that has to be taken into consideration.

I’m glad actually. It means that the super strong pony on my crew can bend metal and smash through concrete walls and it’s believable.

Whilst we can probably put this one down to a one of rule of cool/funny gag, ponies are still capable of smashing wood to bits quite easily. Case in point, RD attacking this barn before Twilight showed up, including biting a plank off. I could easily see her smashing big holes in a ship too, rendering it liable to sink.

Mmmn. The incident with the barn was either an unreplicateably high showing or a special technique, as she fails to replicate it later. Even allowing for the fact that she partly dismantled it before hand, lesser impacts have disabled her since then, and she’s never shown that kind of force elsewhere.
