It’s also worth noting that the Morph Ball was created, like many design choices of NES games, because of technical limitations prevented them from creating a crawling sprite. But it became so iconic that they kept it even when they could have made a crawling sprite.
Although, hilariously, Samus is able to crawl in the Suitless part of Zero Mission. Maybe it was a nod to the fact that Samus never crawled before all that?

I don’t like sequence breaking. It feels like cheating.
I meant you could use the morph ball and bombs in certain metroid games to ‘bomb-jump’ and reach platforms far before you were supposed to.
The puzzles steadily require more mobility as you go along, so your opinion is really just relative to the the Morph Ball’s max potential. It’s needed for unblocked small paths.
