Simple and effective: that’s her character.
Just like in the pony world, she gets beaten regularly by her abusive parents. Getting hit with a broom is nothing to Fluttershy.
Yeah, that’s how I see it to. As a working gal, Applejack is used to that kinda thing anyways, so it’s no big deal to her, and she still looks determined.
I think it defines her personality just fine, so she does has some depth when you think about it in this “character personality defining” moment.
Her response is the no-nonsense, “let’s do this shit” type. Look at her face. She doesn’t want to screw around; she just wants to get the job done.
Rainbow Dash twirls her broom with martial art-like intensity.
Rarity catches her and makes a face of disgust.
Pinkie does an energetic hop to catch hers.
And Fluttershy is timid and turns around in fear of her broom.
What does Applejack do that’s special? Nothing. She just simply catches it…
Why does this character have no depth, no special qualities? It really bothers me. She’s cool and all (my favorite, actually), but she’s so… square.
