I think Hasbro gives the comics a once over. Sadly, when the comics start to become more popular than the show, Hasbro will take them over as well. We’ll see more product placements where Pinkie Pie only uses “sugar scented” hair gel which Hasbro suddenly releases down the road. Twilight also uses X brand of book place holders which Hasbro suddenly begins to sell more of.
It turns out that the comic creators are just like us. And since all of this has to be approved by Hasbro, them too. :)
