Where exactly are these times that Dinky and Derpy are even onscreen together, much less “near” each other? Pretty sure there aren’t any, or the Derpdinkers would trot out every single one anytime someone called them on the utter randomness of their relation!shipping.
 
I’m also still interested in how y’all headfanon Derpy as being Amethyst Star’s mother as well, what with AS explicitly being Dinky’s sister and all.

The story behind it could be anything. Perhaps Carrot Top’s husband is Dinky’s father that divorced Derpy, and sees him every once in a while. Or perhaps Carrot top is an Aunt and the husband is an Uncle?
 
Unless you have a Hasbro dev or any solid non image evidence that Dinky is deemed X’s daughter, then you all can prove nothing. Yes, can’t canon her being Derpy’s daughter either.

And it’s been around since at least early 2011 (I got in July of that year and those things were already entrenched). Who knows how the fanon is formed?

Dinky and Derpy are of similar color. That’s why we came to the conclusion of relation so long ago. I’m guessing “daughter” was picked to amp up the sympathy she provoked.
