Not saying that. Please read the whole conversation if you plan to involve yourself. What I’m trying to say Prometheushunter2 took both sides here by saying you shouldn’t kill in the beginning then saying you should if you kill. Highlighting how it isn’t so clear cut and that there are arguments for and against this.
So what are you trying to say? We shouldn’t, as an example, execute Hitler for his crimes despite all the horrible crap he did? (Well, if he didn’t commit suicide I mean…)
Less on the clarification I was pointing out the irony that you said regardless of souls we shouldn’t kill that which are sapient and juxtaposed it with you saying certain chefs (who are sapient) should die.
As for your second point. Just because we do it doesn’t mean we’re justified in doing so (I’m just playing devil’s advocate no matter what you say because I’m trying to show you it’s a grey area.) What if the chefs don’t know they’re sapient? Etc.
(p.s plural form of “octopus” is octopi”)
I guess that I should’ve clarified when I said conscious I should’ve clarified that I meant sapient. Send it isn’t necessarily contradictory. We execute those who have committed unforgivable crimes, if it turns out some octopus’s are salient and chefs have been using them wouldn’t it be appropriate to execute them and an appropriately excruciating manner
@Prometheushunter2
Isn’t this contradictory? There’s a lot of gray area here. Some have different philosophies and see nothing wrong with that. Some are vegan and say as long as the animal can feel pain it shouldn’t be killed.
Well they don’t have human level they’re just In the higher levels of semisapience. But if they do have human level sapience but we still eat them then some chefs are in need of an execution by fire
Edited
Well certain octopi have human levels of sapience (so much that they receive anesthesia when operating upon because they perceive pain, experience fear and know they exist) and we still consume them.
Human level consciousness, or close enough, sapient
Edited
Conscious? Like cows, pigs and chicken are? Or only having human level sentience?
Edited
You’ve described what it’s made of, you’ve described what it does, there’s no further room in the description. You’ve covered everything.
Of course consciousness is material. It falls into the “what it does” category. The mind is what the brain does. Just like running applications are what your computer does.
English, do you speak it?
So what evidence do you bring that would allow you to make such an assertion? Can you logically disprove their existence? Of course not. Not that your inability to disprove them automatically means that they do exist, but you really can’t going around making the claims you just did without any way to back it up.
As for why we think these things are real, that would take us into a long discussion about the very origin of the universe and such.
Then what are they Mr. Wizard?!
“Room”? What on earth are you talking about? A soul, and a consciousness, are not material. You don’t know this?
And what is Pinkie but a machine made of water and proteins?
I don’t think there’s room for a soul. You have hardware, be it silicon or flesh, and you have what it does, be it applications or minds. Where’s the room for the soul?
Clearly you don’t know what this is referencing, or else you probably wouldn’t be saying how artificial/synthetic beings don’t have a soul
I thought that only applied to gingers? zing
Earth ponies don’t have souls.
Anyway, the clones were not killed but merely, and I quote, “send them back where they came from” (S03 E03 14:02). In other words, they went back to the pool, just as alive (or not) as before.
….No! UGH! You know what. I’ll just let others come to the right conclusion. The ethical issues are just a bit too much for me. {Sorry if I said something offensive or mean. I had no intention of doing so.}
So just because someone’s not born right, we should euthanize them?
Again, from my point of view, it’s not technically murder but more of a mercy killing.
The only Pinkie that showed true emotion and character was the first clone and that was a direct clone of Pinkie herself. As Pinkie made another clone, Twilight pretty much killed only two truly sapient beings.
The others had nothing but fun on the mind because they were a clone of a clone, etc. They were damaged. There was nothing to do for them.
