I watched Friendship is Magic for six years and MLP Generation 5 not only rendered all of FiM’s heroes’ victories completely pointless but was rightfully abruptly cancelled. So why make FiM or G5 at all?

That’s fair - there are numerous ways I wish G5 could’ve been done differently, but none of them have to do with the story or characters. It’s more like, I wish the first season of MYM had done well enough that Netflix was willing to help finance a season 2 (the stuff with Allura was apparently originally intended for that), I wish whatever metric Hasbro was measuring TYT s2 by didn’t cause them to abruptly pull the plug, etc.
Toxic fans have always existed, long before the internet or social media.
So what caused G5 to go wrong? Mismanagement.
