Spike x AJ: That look she was giving him when he was making kissy faces in her direction in the Diamond Dogs episode.
Well, AJ and Spike did have a few cute scenes together in Season 1. And they got an episode in Season 3. Not much too go on, but I’ve seen people work with it.
No I meant, that’s why the whole age thing began.
Let’s see now.
Spike x Rarity: Obvious
Spike x Fluttershy: She thought he was cute at first.
Spike x RD: They could be bros.
Spike x Twilight: They live together.
Spike x Pinkie: Actually, you got me.
Spike x AJ: Actually, I can’t think of a good reason really.
Because you can!
Trying to figure out why Spike should be shipped with certain characters.
I believe it’s my fault, Sorry. :( I mentioned age when in my shippings and…it took itself from there.
>They never once said that they were forbidding him from leaving, just that dragons are big scary monsters so he shouldn’t go.
Yeah, that’s why I said it doesn’t really apply to that case.It has been a while since I watched that episode. They talked about it,but they never argued.
Only that it doesn’t exactly applies in this case since he pretty much received permission from Twilight and the rest (and still, they decided to follow him in case something bad happens to him).
Spike didn’t ask for permission, and Twilight didn’t try to stop him. Or give him permission. Twilight supported his decision, and actually told her friends that none of them had the right to stop him, so she didn’t think that he needed her permission to leave.
Twilight followed him, but that’s because dragons are genuinely dangerous, and she is fully aware that dragons are willing to attack other dragons. Prior to that episode, Spike’s only contact to another dragon was being attack, so it was a valid concern.
Even if not telling him that they were following him was patronizing, friends try to protect friends.
A lot of stuff was dropped from the 1st season.
Yeah, they let him go because it became apparent that trying to physically stop him wasn’t going to work. This wasn’t him running away from home, this was him saying ‘I’m leaving, I’ll try to be back at some point.’ They never once said that they were forbidding him from leaving, just that dragons are big scary monsters so he shouldn’t go.
And as I mentioned, there wasn’t a whole lot of continuity for the idea that he couldn’t stay up to begin with. In the first episode, he fainted and then didn’t wake up, in the Owl episode, he fell asleep after spending all day doing physical labor. There’s also teh possibility that the sleep thing is another dragon trait, given that we know dragons take their naps seriously.
Having Spike fall asleep at night was out of place in the two occasions where it did come up. Especially since the first had him fall asleep after what should have been dawn, and the second had him sleep at a stargazing session it what appeared to be summer. In both occasions, he fell asleep well after what should have been midnight, so it wasn’t like he was conking out early, either.
It was never a problem in the rest of the first season, and was dropped in the rest of series. Most importantly, he’s never had a problem staying up until it’s after the point when adults would have trouble staying awake, so it’s never actually been an indication of immaturity.
Of course, in the process, they ignored Fluttershy, and then sent her into the Everfree forest by herself (not by her choice) in a strange unnecessary costume.
Secret of My Excess and Magic Duel are the ones that I’m talking about here. Still young, but also considered mature. Notably, Duel had Spike take charge of looking up information on Trixie’s power and come up with a plan when Twilight was gone. That actually felt like a logical progression of Spike’s character, rather than using him for laughs or treating him like a walking fax machine.
Take it as you will, but the toys make Spike old enough to be Twilight’s chauffeur. The show doesn’t have cars, but I still think that’s interesting. It’s still one of the few indications we’ve been given of his age.
His dragon nature being a reason to be jealous can be argued but can work to an extent.
I would not be so sure about him getting over falling asleep at night, though.Because it doesn’t guarantee that the writers will follow continuity in that case.
>He left to follow dragons and her permission was not part of that equation as far as he was concerned.
Like a kid (or at least a teenager) when he argues with their parental units and ran away from home.Only that it doesn’t exactly applies in this case since he pretty much received permission from Twilight and the rest (and still, they decided to follow him in case something bad happens to him).
And I’m saying I see no reason to assume that the cmc are closer in age because there isn’t any evidence to that.
>I’d look to Larsen’s portrayal for Spike.
What is Larson’s portrayal?
You’d have an argument if Spike was attending school. As is, Spike works so much that it cuts into his sleep, and he doesn’t have weekends off.
By the standards of anyone other than Twilight, he’s pretty big workaholic, and mostly presented as Twilight’s live-in maid and valet as well as her research assistant. Debates about complexity aside, that’s a lot more work than any of the kids are shown to do.
He’s also a dragon, and by nature he’s greedy and given how most dragons seem to be loners, kind of territorial. That can be applied to owls horning in on his job as well as gems.
Also, Spike got over the whole falling asleep at night thing in season two in ‘It’s About Time.’ Not that it ever was brought up much to begin with but everyone loves to mention it for some reason.
The ice cream thing is true, but by the same token, he left to follow dragons and her permission was not part of that equation as far as he was concerned.
I’m not saying that Spike’s activities aren’t his job. He’s an assistant. I’m just saying that the Main 6 are much older then he, to which makes the CMC, at least, closer of age.
Is a little messed up if you think about it.
Yes,he is an assistant, but that doesn’t change the fact that that he’s still a little kid.
He acted like the typical jealous kid when a a new baby comes in to the family(Owlilcious),He still can’t handle being awake in night hours and Twilight pretty much restricts him certain things like a mother or a big sister would do.Like eating a lot of Ice Cream or Jewels.
That was contradicted by the fact that she gave him a full time job. Even when Lauren was on the show, she wasn’t the only voice.
In all honesty, I’d look to Larsen’s portrayal for Spike.
@Background Pony
If you want to bring up puberty, we know that Spike is old enough to be an adult, he’s just chosen to physically regress to child size.
Technically an adult seems a closer guess to whatever his chronological age is than calling him a child.
Anyway….
The idea of Trixie and Spike starting a relationship based on mutual hatred seems fun.
And that is entirely possible, but at the same time it doesn’t remove the fact that they called it ‘official business’ and not ‘come visit your mother’. I’ve never seen a reason in show to assume that what Spike does isn’t an actual job.
Well, he was called to Canterlot for official business, but I believe that Celestia just wanted to have him around. (She did raise him and is practically his mother.)
