Description

Sadly, it seems 2025’s BABSCon will be the last one.
This is rather saddening. My sister and I have been in the fandom since 2010/11 but only started going to cons last year. We already missed Bronycon, to see another big one like this close is crushing. What sucks is it’s at a time when financial concerns will likely keep us from attending. Harmonycon (the only one local to us) already drains our savings enough and this one is just a few weeks after :(

MLP isn’t the only fandom that’s lost most of its conventions; they all have. The MAGAvirus pandemic essentially ended the fandom convention era by forcing most cons to cancel their 2020 and ’21 events, and by devastating the workforce of the hospitality industry, which lead to widespread consolidation as major chains swallowed up local and regional chains and franchised hotels with convention spaces. That meant most of the long-running cons no longer had the working relationships with individual convention space managers which helped keep prices low, since new owners brought in new managers and could afford to charge outrageous prices for everything because they had bought out most of the competition, and all but the biggest cons either have razor-thin profit margins or just plain run at a loss.
Here in Texas, the long-running A-Kon started in 1990 as Project: A-Kon; it had to cancel ’20 and ’21, and folded in ’23. AnimeFest started in 1992; it canceled ’20 and had a small meetup type event in ’21, and folded in ‘24. Going forward only the biggest cons like Otakon or Anime Central, and monsters like Anime Expo or SDCC, will be able to reliably stay in business. It sucks, but there just aren’t going to be many more Pony cons in the US.

Geez, calm down. You don’t need to trash the entire fandom just because one convention is ending. While it might be disappointing that 2025 is going to be the final year for BABSCon, it’s not the end of the world. There are tons of other brony conventions out there, and I’m sure more will pop up in its place.

this makes me angry and disappointed.
I joined the fandom with such enthusiasm, but it only wants to curl up and die
or take a massive dump on anything that might come after it.
so go on then, curl up and die. just hate anyone and anything new and just rot away.
