Another idea I have, is the Tantabus has actually been running loose the entire time Luna was sealed on the moon as Nightmare Moon, and it’s the reason Luna’s duty of protecting ponies from nightmares didn’t need to be done but for all the wrong reasons: basically Tantabus is like an apex predator and the pony’s dreams are it’s territory, so whoever’s dreams it invades had the nightmare of a lifetime but nobody else had nightmares because all the other nightmares are too scared to enter its territory XD

Tanti isn’t so scary when you get to know her. Even if she is Princess Luna’s nightmares made sentient, she has a soft side. And Big Mac has earned the right to see that side of her.
