As for the utilizing of the elements of harmony, Princess Celestia used Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack as mere learning tools for Twilight. When the time comes they’ll be cast aside, even if Twilight doesn’t want it to happen.

Well, I don’t think they’d let twilight leave her friends, even if hasbro wanted more princess toys, and thus the writers needed more plots. I bet that the last thing they’d do, so don’t worry.
 
They said twilight may not outlive her friends, but they may have been playing around with the words (not that they’d address death in the show). Considering that Celestia Luna and Spike are her friends too, Twilight wont outlive them. Think about it, why would an alicorn die? She holds an element that is too important to Equestria. That, or the others become immortal, thus proving that she wouldn’t leave them.

Guys, if I understand correctly, this is an image from a fan-fic where Twilight and the rest of the elements accidentally get sent to the very far past, and Twilight and the others have to settle down there, Twilight gives birth to two foals she names after the Princesses, only to figure out they ARE the Princesses, and then Discord arrives and the only way to defeat him is the Elements, so Twilight and the others sacrifice themselves to become the Elements of Harmony so Twilight’s daughters can defeat Discord. This is the reason Neither of the Princesses have wings yet. They haven’t become Alicorns. That won’t happen until they defeat Discord and ascend. This picture is after AJ, Dash, Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy have already become the Elements, and Twilight is just starting her change.

Hasbro calls the shots. Their Money, their product. They get problems, they move to another studio that will do what it’s told.

Pretty much what I envision happening as Hasbro demands another slew of Twilight Princess Toys. Celestia and Luna give their powers to Twilight, Twilight ascends to become the “Princess of Princesses,” and goes off.
 
McCarthy said Twilight wouldn’t outlive her friends, but never said anything concerning the fact Twilight might leave them.
