They are like every Hasbro Toy, cheap chinese Products sold for a high Price.
I guess its maybe 20-30 times the Production Cost, but you need to reduce it with the costs for the Shipping, Personal costs and Fees.
I not know the Calculation for Toy, but in a Restairant is usual the Calculation “Material Costs multipy by 4”, what cover Rent of the Location, Employees, Power, Cleaning and Fees.
Myself, I like more the Accurate Figures, like the Funko Vinyl Collectibles, who are Show accurate.
But if we think how Hasbro has made the Toys, the first 6 My Little Pony Dolls have look all the same too, just different Colors and Cutiemarks.
Later they have add more Poses but if they would made a Mold for each Character, they would cost way more as now.

2018 yes.
It is a nice Set for the own Collection, even the Colors are sometimes not so good, like Cadance whos Fur is way to dark.
Also Shinings and Fluttershys CM are very dark, Rainbows Hair could be more bright and Raity has 2 Haircolor.
So far the Figures are nice even they are clearly reused Blind Bag Figures, but it save you the Time to find them and they are in a nice protective Display.
