And Namcolts obsession with parasprites!
(Translation: Namco’s obsession with bugs… darn you Galaga!!!!)
I played it in the store, even though it’s a remake, the new graphics, and 3D-effects actually almost make it feel like a new game. (The 3D also helps you gauge distances better, so it kinda improves the game to.)
Plus SF64 is one of my all-time favorite games, so it’s nice to have a remake to it. (And Ocarina to.) I also like how they redid the music.
Interestingly, they also got most of the original voice actors to re-record all their lines. Who doesn’t love SF64’s corny dialogue? “TO BARREL ROLL PRESS Z OR R TWICE!”
Now we need a remake of the original “Star Fox” SNES game. (Maybe a “3D Classics” Eshop title?)
Already own it, and love it!
Yeah, SFCommand had good concepts in it, (some lifted from the cancelled “Star Fox 2” SNES game like the “strategy” map segments) but I agree, the touchscreen controls in SFC were confusing, (and writer’s-cramp inducing) and the game really needed optional controller pad support. Touchscreen controls make some games more accessable, (like “Brain Age”) but for some like Star Fox they just didn’t work.
Also, why did SFC have online support, but not “Star Fox 64 3D?” It would’ve been a good oppertunity to fix the online VS mode problems SFC had. (Like for instance, DON’T end the game match for everybody if one person drops out, and make “drop outs” count as a “loss” to discourage people from dropping out of matches before they lose.)
Star Fox seems to be the only series Nintendo doesn’t know how to handle. It had a winning formula in SF64, then they changed things to much after that.
They should really let somebody like Retro Studios handle it.
@BinaryPony
Well, Luigi is a pretty beloved character, and this is his 30th anniversary. They’re also doing a Famicom 30th anniversary promotion to. (Even in America, even though the Famicom AKA NES didn’t reach America until 1985.)
Shame ‘cause Star Fox could REALLY use the advertising/love… They should’ve waited ‘till now to release “Star Fox 64 3D,” instead of releasing it around the same time as “Ocarina of Time 3D.” (I think that game kinda overshadowed it.)
I remember Miyamoto said if SF643D doesn’t sell well, they might not make a new Star Fox game for awhile. (Though, they usually only make one every 6 years anyways.)
So if you want a new Star Fox I suggest you buy the 3DS remake. (It’s actually pretty cool.)
@Juggernaut470
The game was an homage to the SNES days… and I got to see what the Rumble Pack was really good for.
The only thing I found shitty was the controls. Apart from that, it felt like it would work well on an N64. This is of course ignoring all the endings. Lets forget any of them actually had a chance of happening.
I don’t recall Command ever being regarded as shitty. I thought everyone loved it because it was so close to 64’s play style?
To be fair, I think it’s because Star Fox Command kinda killed the series with it’s shittyness.
Yeah… it’ the year of Luigi… whoop-dee-doo…
Star Fox needs more love from both Nintendo, and Nintendo fans. (This year is the series’ 20th anniversary, and it’s getting no love this year.)
