In the mémoires of his valet de chambre we can see that he considered the french as his children, especially the soldiers. It’s thanks to him that notions like “individual rights” are celebrated
It’s because you know nothing you numbnutt
Also his main use of violence to enforce discipline was using cannons on the streets of Paris to quell post-revolutionary riots, which can be somewhat justified in the fact that he was protecting a fragile revolutionary government from descending back into chaos and that cannons are fundamentally less accurate but more frightening than flintlock rifles, scaring the populace away from the riots without the casualties of a firing line.
Also it’s thanks to him archaeology got a great boost thanks to all the scientists he brought with him in Egypt and he was the first to abolish slavery, he re-established it only to abolish it again two years later admitting openly that it was a mistake
He was religiously and racially tolerant to a degree that was unusual at the time. He was actively working toward ending antisemitism in France and tried to establish friendly relations with the Muslim population in areas that came under his influence. Compared to some of the empires he was fighting his approach to his subject peoples was fairly progressive.
Corsica was annexed by France just before Napoleon’s birth. Before that, it was briefly independent after it had thrown off Genoese rule. Corsica was a predominantly Italian culture and Napoleon was born as ‘Napoleone di Buonaparte’.
The rest what you said is pretty spot on, though Napoleon did also have his less virtuous sides. Mostly his disdain for the lower classes, his utter lack of scrupulous in using violence and death to enforce discipline and his boundless ambition which eventually got him his real defeat in his Russian campaign.
He also wrote tons and tons of REALLY sappy love letters. Which is neither good or bad, but a little known thing that does make him a bit more human.

@GUILLE832
Thanks. I like to think of myself as an amateur historian, but “amateur” is the operative word and my facts are sometimes off the mark. Sorry about that and thanks for correcting me.
