Actually, the author stated this:
 
“In order to fully become a princess, Twilight Sparkle accepted to participate in a ritual where she will learn to become one with the princesses.
 
She wasn’t even sure what that tried to mean, but when they told her Princess Cadence passed throught the same ritual, her doubts finally dissapeared.
 
What she didn’t expect was that the part of “becoming one with the princesses” meant to be swallowed whole by them.
 
Each night, when Luna starts her royal duties, Twilight Sparkle has to let herself to be eaten by Princess Celestia, having to expend the rest of the night at the mercy of her mentor, who enjoys carrying her while she gives a walk throught the castle, where she only can be seen bye her most faithful subjects.
 
When the sun finally rises, Celestia notifies her student she has to resume her royal duties and starts softening her internal muscles, letting the joung alicorn to crawl to her liberty.
 
Celestia can’t still decide what’s the best moment of the ritual for her:  
Watching how her beloved student “reborns” from her own body again or watching her sister’s welcoming maw already prepared to receive the exhausted alicorn.
 
Both moments are so beautiful for her.”

The princess wishes to consume her student to become more powerful, what a twist!
