Randomly finding this comment is interesting to me.

I’ve always thought if Pipp had kids, that she’d be good at loving her kids, but not good at momming for her kids, leading auntie Zipp to have to be the one who for all intents and purposes raises them, basically.

Like, Pipp tries her best but it doesn’t work very well so she just has to religate herself to loving and providing things she can buy for them more then raising/taking care of them.

Financially and securely, yes. Invested iinterest in her child, probably. But I think she currently lacks the maturity and discipline specifically for raising kids. I don’t see her kids respecting her all that much. Eventually she’d be that parent who thinks spoiling their child with stuff is a form of love and then getting upset the child still seems needy.

Zipp would make a far better mother IMO.

I’ll agree that G5 isn’t G4. Even though Hasbro tried to ham fist it in without some good context or story writing. However this I feel was more due to Hasbro again bumbling their own IP and knee capping their writers in the process. Though at least with the ending of the Opaline arc, and the starting of this new villain arc it seems they are trying to move away from it.

Sadly though with the apparent cancelation of MYM and everything seemingly shifting to TYT, I fear we will not really get a good character growth or story telling out of it. Well… at least if they continue to stick with the short five minute format. I know there is going to be some longer episodes, but in my opinion I think they are just going to be more focused around holiday themed episodes and be really self contained and have no real overarching plot. Time will tell.

I double-checked the scene, watching it in HD and 25% speed. The whole bad lighting shift doesn’t exist in this instance; what we’re looking at is the compressed quality of the gif upload.

To be fair, the first chapter animation of MYM (and I think the second) were certainly less than stellar, more like the 3D quality I expected to be in a show like this. They sacrificed a lot to try maintaining hair texture. But afterwards they picked up extremely nicely.

Writing in TYT was pretty awful early on, but it picked up really well in most places. Season 2 is a bit lacking to me, we’ll have to see.

To everyone, it’s important we recognize G5 isn’t Friendship is Magic 2.0 and isn’t meant to be (and thank goodness because all it’d do is draw unequal comparisons). The Pippsqueaks aren’t CMC replacements, and having them appear without parents helps keep the background characters clear.

There’s only so much they’re working with; they’re [mostly] trying not to plug the background with recolors, and giving parents to the Pippsqueaks (which isn’t necessary because they’re not major side characters anyway) just adds to what they have to keep up with.

There was some issues with contrast and lighting. I noticed at some points that often Sunny was way oversaturated and other times she was fine. I am assuming that these issues also may have popped up on the lighting as well.

Hey look, we’re having problems with the lighting now. Anything else even more trivial that somehow makes G5 so bad?

Are we sure that’s not from the quality of the gif upload adjusting contrast from Pipp’s head tilt or alteration in a shadow from somewhere in the episode’s environment?

Yeah I think that was a problem in the earlier chapters of MYM. The lighting and contrast was all over the place.

Does anyone else notice a drastic change in lighting when Pipp turns her head?

Your opinion consists of a lot of bashing words like “stupid” and “inept”. I was wrong about one thing though. This isn’t just G5 bashing.

I feel the reason why Scootaloo’s parents where added was because of the comic referencing her aunts (my opinion). It was either that or they were just at the point of trying to close up plot holes and decided to just throw them in at the last minute for some kind of “wow” moment. Honestly I felt it was just somewhat silly, and her parents reasons for being away for so long also came of as stupid.

Was simply responding with my opinion to someone asking about why parents are absent for the most part in G5. This is not bashing, so don’t see where you are going with that. Also I don’t like to talk negatively about G5 because I really liked The movie and MYM for the most part. However it just seems like the story writers have little to no interest in actually giving the characters parents (or parents with some actual character growth), or they just quickly kill them off once their plot usefulness is complete.

Terrible writing, or just ineptness. Doesn’t seem like the story writers for G5 honestly cared that much about parents. That was clearly evident the with just how quickly they killed off Argyle. And now with MYM pretty much dead in the water. Highly doubt there is going to be anymore delving into characters parents.

I’m surprised she’s big enough to hide all three 😏

I mean I took us until the second Season of FiM before we met the parents of Sweetie (and Rarity) while Scootaloo’s parents and aunts didn’t show up until the very last Season. So absent parents aren’t anything new. What bothers me more is the amount of single parents in the show: Argyle, Phyllis, Queen Haven and now Alphabittle. What happened to the other parent? Did they all die or got divorced?

Hey, with how many characters being orphans or lacking one parent in this generation, I bet these three are orphans too. Pipp might as well be their actual mom. She’s not a bad one at least.

The absence of parental interest leads to social media raising kids.

Parents these days toss phones and tablets at their kids from a young age to preoccupy them in an otherwise hectic lifestyle, often without the parents even realizing these devices come with apps to access social media or internet. They find popular ‘influencers’ other kids at school are talking about, follow them, and try emulating them by their own social media posts and videos. And of course they’ll adore the influencers because they’re successful and appear to have remarkable lives, so everything they do and believe must be good for personal growth.

As I was talking about this with a fellow brony, he said that’s exactly what’s happening with his little brother and his mother. Stranger Danger is dead at this point.

Luckily for the Pippsqueaks, Pipp is a legitimate good role model and somewhat available.
