Rainbow Road: Double Dash

I’m more reminded of the MK Wii version.
Or they’re way out in front and the Spiked Blue Parashell is just in case someone manages to get ahead.

No, not really. Speaking from experience here, the Golden Mushroom usually only gets you up two places further ahead if you’re in last place with it.
