In my mind, one of the reasons she is like this is that subconsciously she is hyper sensitive to the idea that disobedience or being late is a sign that she is still being treated with neglect.
There is a difference between abuse and neglect.
Abuse is forcing someone to act a certain way for your own benefit at the cost of their own happiness.
Neglect is just straight up not caring much about who you are meant to take care of. Opaline was flashing back to her drunk or possibly addicted bitch of a mother who barely recognized her.
Opaline when hearing Misty wanted a hug suddenly imagined herself talking to her own mom. Opaline still thinking she was talking to her own mom in that delusional state decided to finally speak her mind and tell her mom off.
Misty snapped opaline out of it. Opaline finally having a moment of decency told mity to just leave in the only way she could and decided to wait for the next pony or creature she could use for her schemes.
She’s good at waiting for something, anything that means well…
