I take the other position: you have zero responsibility for what other people choose to feel or believe or do. Crack shippers always say things like “How could they not love them back?” That’s equivalent to saying a victim should be considerate to their stalker. No.

Oh no, I got the message and I agree with it, I just don’t agree with how much Twilight takes the blame.
She does take some fault - she could’ve stood to be more cordial/socially aware - but Moondancer was the one that chose to leave her legitimately committed friends and forgo friendship over the “friend” that never really displayed all that much interest in the first place.
My gripe isn’t the message, the messages in MLP are never really wrong, I just take issue with how the problem was portrayed.
Moondancer felt betrayed when Twilight left yet the other Canterlot unicorns in their friend group laughed and went “yeah, this is par for the course with Twilight.”
The message and the problem it’s conveyed through aren’t always perfect. I was just rather annoyed since people always gives Twilight so much flak for something she legitimately didn’t have much responsibility towards.

Twilight left (to stop NMM), became a better person, and saved the world multiple times.
Moondancer ditched her actual friends and became a social recluse because she learnt her parasocial relationship with the popular kid was rather one-sided in hindsight.
