Y’know, I like the idea that Misty was Izzy’s friend in Bridlewood way back when, but eventually got jealous of how Izzy was able to face their miserable lives with a smile on her face. Thus, she left to try and get out of Izzy’s shadow, only to end up in desperate situations ending with her in Opaline’s thrall. Now, she either still clings to Opaline because she still wants a taste of that power that Opaline promises, or else she feels guilty about what she’s done and can’t go back and face her old friend. Perhaps a mixture of both.
I also like the idea that perhaps what the true catalyst - to Izzy leaving Bridlewood to seek out Sunny, to see if the letter still held true, or indeed was even true in the first place - was losing her one and only friend and the despair that caused building up over time.
So yeah, I could totally see Izzy being the one to get through to Misty, to reform her (perhaps Sprout could help too by recounting the story of what he’d done, and how forgiving the ponies had been with him).
