So I’m gonna fess up to something here.

I thought “burger eating invasion monkeys” was actually a racist term for Mexicans, referencing illegal immigration, rather than a stereotype of Americans.

It’s still, uh, kind of mean. But not as bad as I thought it was. Thus I express penitence to the extent of the difference in vulgarity levels interpreted.

I’ve been to POW-WOWs gatherings where people actually dress like that.

I was never really a fan of “Political Correctness” personally. It just seems like something that IRL “social justice warriors” throw around.

It’s wrong for a doll to celebrate Mexican culture to have a passport? As opposed to not having one and getting into countries illegally? Smart one.

bunch of burger eating invasion monkeys guilt tripping each other, it’s actually a cute doll in a fairly sensible folkloric outfit. but no. apparently they think Mexicans are too sensitive.

That’s why they took Speedy away from us, Now he’s some sort of Italo-Mexico-American who lives in a completely white and PC-like way “just like normal people should.”

Ruiz, who teaches courses in Latino studies, race and popular culture, said he finds common representations of Mexican Americans in pop culture as feisty, lively characters, associations that he says have outlived their time.

“[Mexican Americans] are tired of being seen as merely colorful,” he said.’

So being “colorful” is bad? Would they be happier if she wore grey, black, and white? Would he be less offended if Mexicans were portrayed as lazy, instead of “feisty, and lively?”

I’m part Indian, but I’m not offended by those old Loony Tunes cartoons, and such with Indians dressed in buckskins, feathers, and stuff. If they came out with a “Native American Barbie” I wouldn’t care.

I suppose they could’ve given her a better “cultural look,” and one that’s a li’l less cliche’, and I can see how people could misunderstand the passport. (What were they thinking including that?) Though all the “Barbie of the World” dolls have the passport, so it’s not just the Mexican one.
