If you follow the theory of id, ego, and super ego then not so much boyo. And before anybody goes saying it, of course you don’t have little people living in your head. Still the fact is there is the real you and theres the you that your mind forces you to be so that you can be socialy accepted. This is more a survival instinct then a concious choice people make.
 
Anybody who knows a “closet brony” has seen this first hand.

To turn this idea on its head, you are already yourself. All your inhibitions and mental defense mechanisms were enacted by YOU to live your life in what you believe to be the optimum way for yourself. Any lies you’ve crafted about/for yourself serve to prevent you from possibly engaging in actions you could come to regret.
 
Those of you who say that you’ve paid for being yourselves learned this the hard way. There’s a point where society as it has been created will NEVER tolerate you being yourself in your most uninhibited form. The self includes defenses and checks upon itself to not do itself harm and to remain happy.
 
While you may not always be earnest, the judgement to not be so may still be in earnest.

Well i do do that on the internet because, well it’s the Internet, I come from rule34 and YouTube so I’ve seen judgment, but ^in real life it’s just harder

The key to being yourself is not giving a rats ass if others view you negatively. I’d quote Kierkegaard but right now I’m to tired.

Eh, who cares what other people think, as long as nobody gets hurt.

I wish I can be myself, I’ll be liked way more but at the same time, I will be seen as a nuisance as well…..
