Yeah, it is pretty stupid.
Because that happened after the writers tried to change it and thought no one would notice, as if they think viewers are stupid or something.
And don’t try to dismiss my point about Cheerilee and Fluttershy just because you don’t like that it’s true.
Sugar Belle was not the “default” because they had literally not ever met before and the writers just randomly picked her out of the female characters in a stupid panic over the MarbleMac thing, which was also quite stupid.
And you know they could’ve absolutely just had the Apples and Pies not be related right? I mean it wouldn’t have been that hard to explain.
Because unlike Shining Armor and Cadance, SugarMac does come off as incredibly forced because Big Mac and Sugar Belle never had any interactions before, and at least Shining Armor and Cadance were both introduced at the same time.
And don’t try to lie and say that Big Mac and Sugar Belle had had tons of interactions before they were magically put in a relationship out of thin air, because we all know that’s a lie.

Isn’t it? Big Mac met Marble Pie at a family reunion. They consider themselves family. Having Big Mac dating someone he considers his cousin is iffy.
Cheerilee and Big Mac only interacted as friends. Their “romance” was entirely due to a love potion. A relationship built on the Equestrian equivalent of a roofie is also iffy.
And Fluttershy is strictly his friend. There are, as far as I can tell, zero romantic vibes between them. Especially since Fluttershy is pretty much already paired with Discord.
So yeah, it’s Sugar Belle by default.

Well, that would only be true if it weren’t for the fact that he actually had more interactions with Cheerilee and Fluttershy than he ever did with Sugar Belle.
I mean, those two at least live in the same freaking town, so they would make far more sense than just throwing in Sugar Belle because of a few stupid Karens whining.
Because that is pretty much why MarbleMac was scrapped, because the writers got cold feet because some stupid soccer moms might’ve tried to say that it was incest when it really wasn’t.

Yeah.
And at this point, or at least at times, I honestly think they should’ve just left any actual pairings out of the show, aside from the parents obviously and Shining Armor and Cadance.
I just think that how they handled the whole Big Mac thing was ridiculous, which is kinda ironic since they actually handled some issues a few times in the show fairly well.

I agree, it’s stuff like that, which I think adds to the adorable charm of the pairing.
That and the fact that Big Mac no doubt has at least met Fluttershy before the show ever started and all, though the same could be said about Cheerilee as well.

MarbleMac introduced at a family gathering. It was doomed to feel icky from the start.
CheeriMac introduced through the characters being forced together. If they had become a couple after it might give the idea that “Maybe it is a good start to a relationship to drug someone.” So so so glad that didn’t continue this one.
FlutterMac never existed.
SugarMac is the only good ship. And I like that they didn’t make up a new character, they chose one of the incredibly underused Our Town pony. No question about this being the best one.
No LunaMac? No FleetMac? Those are not bad ships.
