Um…okay then. This leaves me feeling very confused.
For me, I think this Sunny in this drawing is the same Sunny we see in ‘a New Generation’, not a new character. However, I do think that the full Alicorn version of Sunny will be something we see at the end of the series, likely as the endpoint of her journey.

As for you, I don’t think Sunny will be the Last of the Alicorns. Rather, she will be the first of the new Alicorns (similar to how Luke Skywalker was the start of the New Jedi Order rather than the end of the old in Star Wars).
There are three Alicorn modes; Twilight mode, Luna mode and Celestia mode. Here on the picture is Sunny in the Celestia mode. This means that she has become a full-grown and potential alicorn, and it took many years for Twilight to reach this stage. That will mean after the G5 is over, as she will become a permanent alicorn in the Twilight mode. Her name may suggest that the G6 in the 2030s may unfold in a time of space travel, which is really expected - in a thousand years.
When Celestia and Luna were born, it was probably in the first 500 years of modern Equestria’s time that connected antiquity and the Middle Ages. After Celestia took over, it slipped into a crossroads between the Middle Ages and early modern times. By the birth of Twilight, Equestria had entered modern times (1880-1930). In the G5, the ponies had taken the step into the digital age, probably 800 to 1000 years after the end of the G4. Sunny, who will live for centuries as an alicorn, will see how the foundation of the next generation, the G6, emerges.
The alicorns have been watching the history of ponies for millennia, and they will continue to do so from time immemorial.

No … the Alicorn Sunny 2.0 many years after the end of the G5. Adjust a little on the colors of the wings and make the horn firmer, and then we have the possible future princess Sunny Starscout of Hope. Her name may suggest that she will overlook the space adventure when the ponies go into space in the following centuries.
