I’d be surprised if you find another example. I was using it as a bit of … hyperbole? Anyway, it was many applied to The Gorillaz, though I forget if that was in general, the first two albums, or just the first album.
Metal is getting really bad with this. Back when I started listing to metal, you know what we called it… Metal. Now I get that there are going to be some very distinct genres, but honestly some of these damn things are the same save for one little detail.
Sweet Celestia, don’t even get me started about melodic death metal, space synth, and zombie hip hop. They’re good types of music, but damn, are there a whole lot of subgenres.
Too many genres now a days. Many of which are just minor alterations from other genres.
