I just think it wouldn’t have been a good idea to make Sunny an alicorn in one movie. I wouldn’t object to Sunny becoming an alicorn later. AFTER we see more of her character because, quite frankly, we’ve barely scratched the surface of the character that is Sunny Starscout. Not to mention, we don’t even know how the pegasus, earth pony, and unicorn crystals even work. All I’m saying is that I would like to see more character development because then there is more payoff. Also, the separated ponies were doing just fine, Sunny doesn’t need to become a princess because they’re doing fine by themselves.

Sunny is taking the place of Twilight in this universe. Twi was an Alicorn. Therefore Sunny will become an Alicorn. Why do you hate that so much? Why do you act like there would be some issue with that? I love Sunny, and I want to see her become an Alicorn in the series just as Twilight did before her. Reason being she has all of the leadership skills needed for that role.

Here is my theory on “Alicorn Sunny”  
Alicorn Sunny is a power up mode (for what, IDK)  
This seems the most likely because it wouldn’t make sense to have Sunny become an alicorn out of nowhere and it also doesn’t make for a rewarding story or future show. Heck I would almost like it if nopony became an alicorn at all. The G4 show showed off the deeper personalities behind all the characters and by turning Sunny into an alicorn, it would put all that possible potential for learning about her character go to waste. I mean, Sunny does more than advocate for friendship right? So why put that to waste. Alicorns are also considered ‘royalty’ so turning Sunny into royalty doesn’t seem like the best idea, not to mention the backlash inside and outside the film that would cause.
 
Think about this, when magic returns (because it will, what else did you expect), Sunny is secretly an alicorn. Wait. Stop. This makes no sense. This is what I mean. This would be poor writing and leave a lot of plot holes that would have to be covered later, like, how is this possible, if there is a lack of magic, how could Sunny’s true form be concealed, spells obviously don’t work, and I don’t see that Sunny is wearing a medallion or pendant of some sort that would do the job. The wings and horn also seem to be glowing, indicating that these appendages are a magical construct. Twilight’s wings didn’t glow like that so why are Sunny’s? Because they are artificial. This also begs the question, why does Sunny have an alternate form? What does this mean? IDK I haven’t thought that far ahead yet.

Princess Sunny makes no sense and I don’t want to see that happen because then the show won’t have any interesting Sunny moments.
