What’s funny is that I remember this being on VH1’s 50 most awesomely bad songs for that reason. The people doing it couldn’t figure it out either.

The meaning of the song is right there in the lyrics. Meatloaf sings about a bunch of things he’d “never” do at various points in the song (“forget the way you feel”, “stop dreaming of you every night”, etc.) then follows it a couple of lines later with “I won’t do that”. Later on in the song, the female vocalist (Lorraine Crosby) suggests “sooner or later you’ll be screwing around”, and Meatloaf sings back “I won’t do that”. It only doesn’t make sense if you take the line in isolation.

oh come on…. i’do anything for love by meatloaf and if you want to know what that song meant? its simple it meant that the singer ( meatloaf) would not cheat on her or betray her
