So you’re saying that the season six finale ignore the events of “The Return of Queen Chrysalis”, “FIENDship Is Magic #5”, and “Guardians of Harmony”, right? So that means no Changelings draining the love of a cat kingdom and turned it into a temporary changeling kingdom, then got locked up and escaped, no map of southern Equestria thanks to the events of the movie, and no Chrysalis invading the Crystal Empire in Annual 2017. But, you could say that Chrysalis’ origins as seen in “FIENDship Is Magic #5” as well as Chrysalis’ past of invading the Crystal Empire during Princess Amore’s reign but before King Sombra usurping and murdering Amore as seen in the non-canonical story arc “Siege of the Crystal Empire” could still be canon to the show. Also, the season six finale indirectly mentions the events of the season two finale, right? So as Chrysalis mentions one ponyknapped princess out of the way, does she mentioned Cadance, the princess that Chrysalis impersonated while trying to take over Equestria via trying to drain Shining Armor’s love to marry him?
So you’re trying to tell me and/or us that the tie-in comics, books, and novels could not be canon to the tv show or is that some or most of them could be canon to the show and some aren’t?
Well, technically, the season six finale does not contradict the comics and could possibly make sense that Queen Chrysalis does indirectly mention the events of “The Return of Queen Chrysalis”, “FIENDship Is Magic Issue #5”, and the 2017 annual alongside the season two finale. And yes, the 2017 annual is set before the season six finale despite being release a year after season six ended since Queen Chrysalis is still ruler of the Changeling Kingdom before being overthrowned by Thorax.
Well, according to FIENDship Is Magic Issue #5, Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings came from a swamp where a rotten acorn was dropped into an eerie lake which grew into a tree that fed on insects and Starswirl the Bearded appeared and upon seeing the lake, he put a sign on the tree to keep ponies from entering the lake, but the nail releases the bugs, which have evolved into equine beings along with Chrysalis. Who cares? Chrysalis’s origins in the comics could still be canon to the show because these comics published by IDW as well as novels and storybooks could be called “tie-in stories”.
That’s not Adagio Dazzle or Fluttershy’s dinosaur counterpart. I don’t know who that beast is.
Season 10 is true to the show canon. The show canon and the comic canon are actually in the same canon. For example. The Return of Queen Chrysalis was set after the events of the season two finale but during season three, Issues #1-12 (including the Return of Queen Chrysalis) and the Micro Series were set during season three and before the season three finale because Twilight is still unicorn, the end of the season four episode “Bats!” led into the events of “Night of the Living Apples”, the events of “The Fall of Sunset Shimmer” were mentioned in the first Equestria Girls movie despite the movie being released before the comics, Friends Forever Issues #5-7 (along with the Golden book “An Egg-Cellent Costume Party”) were set before the season four finale because we see that the Golden Oak Library was still standing before it was destroyed/burned/blown up by Lord Tirek, the events of Friends Forever Issue #13 were mentioned by Apple Bloom in “Bloom and Gloom” because the comic was released three months before the episode was aired the two-Part story arc “Don’t You Forget About Us” was set before “Crusaders of the Lost Mark” because the CMC didn’t get their cutie marks yet (even though Issues 38-41 of the original series and Issues #22-27 of Friends Forever is also set before “Crusaders of the Lost Mark” because of this), the end of the three-parter “From the Shadows” led into the events of the season seven finale “Shadow Play”, the flashback scenes of Issue 40 of the original series (Adventures in Dragon Sitting) was set after Twilight’s flashback scene in “The Cutie Mark Chronicles” but also set before the Twilight’s flashback scene in “Sparkle Seven”, “Angel’s Big Day” was set during the events of “Fluttershy Leans In”, “Wings Over Yakyakistan” were set sometime after “Not Asking for Trouble”, “Apinkalypse Now” was set after the events of “Discordant Harmony”, “The Vines That Bind” were set after the events of “A Health of Information”, “Pie in the Sky” was set after the events of “Secrets and Pies”, “The Stars on Our Ponies” was set sometime after the events of “Marks and Recreations”, the first six issues of “Legends of Magic” were set during season 7 but before the events of the season seven finale because the end of Issue 6 led into the events of the season seven finale, the present day events of the second half of the twelve issue of “Legends of Magic” (which is the prologue of Issue #7 and the epilogue of Issue #12) were set after the season seven finale but before “My Little Pony: The Movie”, “Tempest’s Tale” was set after the events of the film but before the events of season 8 as well as Issues #61-66 (despite being released after the season eight premiere and Issues #61-66), the events of “Convocation of the Creatures”, “Applewood Follies”, and “Happy Haunts” were set between the season eight premiere and “The Maud Couple but before issues 63-65, and 69-70 according to the fictional chronology in the official MLP Wikia, the Guardians of Harmony 2017 Annual was set sometime during the first six episodes of season 6 but before the season six finale because Fire Streak is still a Wonderbolt and the changelings were still loyal to Queen Chrysalis before their betrayal/defection despite the annual released after the season six finale, the 2014 Equestria Girls Holiday Special was set sometime after “My Little Pony Equestria Girls 2: Rainbow Rocks” because Sunset Shimmer communicates with Twilight via their linked books, the flashback scenes in Issue #85 were set sometime after the first sonic rainboom, “The Strange Case of Silver Blaze” is possibly set during the first half of season 8 but before “Molt Down” because Spike didn’t have wings and despite being released after the show ended Issues #84-88 were set before the three-part series finale. Also, various comics did mentioned the events of several episodes of the show including the Friendship Is Magic pilot, Boast Busters, A Dog and Pony Show, Over a Barrel, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Luna Eclipsed, Sisterhooves Social, Family Appreciation Day, The Last Roundup, Putting Your Hoof Down, A Canterlot Wedding, The Crystal Empire, Magic Duel, Princess Twilight Sparkle, Power Ponies!, Rainbow Falls, Insperation Manifestation, Twilight’s Kingdom, The Cutie Map, The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, Party Pooped, No Second Prances, To Where and Back Again, Fluttershy Leans In, Not Asking for Trouble, Discordant Harmony, The Perfect Pear, Fame and Misfortune, Campfire Tales, Daring Done?, A Health of Information, Secrets and Pies, Marks and Recreations, Shadow Play, The Last Problem, and even My Little Pony: The Movie as well as Equestria Girls. Speaking of the My Little Pony Movie, the 4-issue prequel comic series as well as the novel “The Stormy Road to Canterlot” were set before the events of both the tv show as well as the movie according to the fictional chronology seen in the official MLP Wikia. And finally, the events of “The Journal of the Two Sisters” “FIENDship Is Magic”, the second half of “Legends of Magic”, and the Legends of Magic 2018 Annual were all set before the tv show too. Yes. The IDW comics usually follows the TV series’ canon but the show doesn’t technically follow comic canon because all the comics are totally canon to the tv series. Well, FIENDship Is Magi Issue #3 and “Siege of the Crystal Empire” are technically not canon to th tv series because the season seven finale flashback and the season nine premiere ignore the events of these comics. Even the novels/chapter books and the Tails of Equestria games are canon to the tv series.
So Andy sacrificed being consistent with the fact that these comics were MEANT to follow up after the TV show so he could flaunt the comic stories he drew? Wow.
Now I have a feeling that wasn’t his true intentions but the choice of doing so only hurts the consistency these comics are trying to set up.
Edited
Show canon and comic canon are separate. The Season 10 run is supposed to be true to show canon history and thus an extension of it, but this page is either a case of the writer or Andy wanting to be familiar with the audience, despite the contradiction. Hard to say; page scripts are brief and basic, and I wasn’t involved in this issue.
Hmmm I see some merit there. But still, the numbers show the same thing “maybe”. Either way, the comics make a good setup for G5 so I guess we’ll find out in septeber.
Not good enough. It is also known that the writers for the show often showed contempt and sometimes ignorance towards others such as the IDW writers and the book writers - and this had led to contradictions and problems, especially in S4-S9. Sometimes this was attempted to be rectified, but only in the passage. Today there is a lot of anxiety and sadness over what happened then. As with the G4 Movie about Capper’s status as a rich man’s son or street boy, rewriting and correction are needed to put together a more coherent background. The idea of how changelings occur has never been aired in the show in contrast to the comics. Yet it has become popular.
The G5 writers are likely to learn from the mistakes and make it better. Furthermore; A zero sum that can trigger a catastrophe in our world that has never before been destabilized is no longer desirable. The ponies do not believe in 50/50 where one excludes the other with 100% annihilation - we saw this when Starlight confronted Starswirl under the Shadow Pony arc. And she was right.
The events of the comics chrysalis talks to twilight about her past take place after season 2 where she tried to capture twilight and she lost and got locked in a castle with her changelings.
But in season 6 she says : “We thought too small last time. One ponynapped princess wasn’t enough. With all the most beloved ponies of Equestria taken care of, nopony can stop us!” She is referring to the events of a canterlot wedding as “last time” but the events of the comics happened after that. According to her words they never happened. Otherwise she would have referred to them as “last time”.
“ - Ehh hardly. The comic of the changelings back story was contradicted in the season 6 finale - “?
Please inform us.
Ehh hardly. The comic of the changelings back story was contradicted in the season 6 finale.
Where the events of the comics after a caterlot wedding never happened as chrysalis herself said :
“We thought too small last time. One ponynapped princess wasn’t enough. With all the most beloved ponies of Equestria taken care of, nopony can stop us!”
Regardless; After all, Starswirl had access to all knowledge of magic for centuries, even outside Equestria - and that is a simple explanation for why he did not find the temples; not only were they hidden from his people - they were probably raised in the time after he and the pillars took the Shadow Pony with them to the limbo. Ocypete could only document the story of the Tree of Love to “more than a thousand years”. This is likely from the “Discord period”, she explained that the knights meant “the outside world was in chaos”, when they went out to find other creatures and other lands. We do not know how long it was between The Shadow Pony Arc and the end of Discord’s regime, but it was probably a couple of centuries. When the Nightmare Moon revolt occurred, the immortality (or very sluggish aging) of the alicorns was established.
There are many indications that the Harmony tree in Everfree, where there are huge amounts of raw magic that may have been left behind by a civilization that may have been Tambelon, is the first of all six trees. It is possible that the knights learned about it, and thus would create their own trees, and then the temples. In the temples themselves, there are depictions on walls that are from the Discord period. Among other things, a picture of the abyssinian king Cat senior with a severed ear. (Cosmos cut it off)
Then it’s no wonder Starswirl does not know; but he will possibly have knowledge of Cunabula as soon as Rainbow Dash explained what Ocypete had explained to her about the knights.
Wait, he created Chrysalis?
But the LITERAL HARMONY TREE the Avian Royal Family uses as their throne and symbol of authority? Yeah, I highly doubt Starswirl would not have heard of and investigated that.
