I feel that using the Trixie is written poorly as an excuse for her own actions is earlier episodes and even some of this episode is somewhat redundant since by your logic you can say that about both them. I would consider "deliberately pushed narrative" to be bad writing as it stands but with that said I just straight up disagree with you that either of them are poorly written.


 
I think both of them are written fine and my comment was more about how, yes while Starlight was out of line in this episode, it was only the previous season where Trixie really messes up big time with the map and implies that she didn't really learn anything.
 
But honestly that's why I and a lot of others like these characters, cos they're a little more down to earth and less goody goody then most of the mane six.  
But also the main difference is that Starlight does get better, she does take every bad thing she does and try make it better, so if anything I'd say Starlight should be the one saying this to Trixie. But I digress
