My theory is that all the Element names are simply educated guesses in-universe. The Pillars, being the first bearers of the Elements, assumed that each element corresponded to an obvious quality each of them had; hence the more blunt names like Strength and Beauty. By the time of the Mane 6 however, more accurate names were figured out via observation of who each Element would resonate with

I woudn’t really count the throne as him losing his powers. They just didn’t work in the vicinity of the throne.
 
Unless Fluttershy’s line you’re referring to referenced chrysalis’ throne in particular I couldn’t imagine it referring to that personally.

The baast one really wasn’t bad, and i really think is just dump the “oh, those comics aren’t canon because we now follow the show despiste a really bad comunication with DHX!” specially when the season 10 concept is in issue 89 instead of a new #1 to make know that’s a new start without taking something from the previous comics.
 
But yeah, putting Cosmos arc in the same universe as Ending of the end it’s just weird to Discord, looks like ponies actually made him evil, but i think Whitley really don’t like ending of the end because when there can be a reference to Ending of the end just like issue 89 and issue 96, never it’s mentioned, instead, in issue 89 looks like Tempest asked for Discord because she only knows him for the legends (reason why Discord cuts Cosmos pics) and in issue 96, Fluttershy said “you lost it twice”, making reference he lost his powers just 2 times when in the show he lost it 3 times, so… makes look Whitley only counts Tirek’s betrayal and Changeling throne.

Why this might be helpful for the story, this opens up a new wave of problems because we all thought everything else from the comics would be retconned if the comics were going to take on the task of continuing where the TV series left off. And the comics before the Season 10 issues are filled with flanderizations and concepts that have been debunked by the show.

Well, both are cats, so makes sense having that connection, and now is even hilarious Capper having interaction with the 3 draconequus and Discord have connection with the abyssian because of Baast.

And to think I already had a headcanon going on about them WAY before this. I was even going to bring this up in a fanfic. This caught me by surprise and I’m actually glad that they officially confirmed this connection.

Do you remember that moment when Discord had a relationship with a cat in the ancient egypth? Well, that’s still canon in the comics and now we know the cats and the abyssian are related.

There’s logical explanations which could mean it’s not completely or even severely retconned at all, meaning it could and there’s a chance it’s still canon, so indeed I will.

Firstly; everyone on the license from Hasbro is canon as long as it does not contradict clear information in the show lags of DNX Media for Hasbro, such as Gameloft which is based on which is license material in the movies, the TV episodes, the comics and the books. There is little point in being slavish about the show as if it is “sacred” and everything else is non-canon. Vague hints of various interpretations do not weigh more heavily on established information elsewhere. There is nothing to suggest that the color of the elements “proportioned” these to one of the six elements; as relatives, close acquaintances and specials like Flash Magnus - and sources of inspiration are included. Furthermore; the Young 6`s connection to the elements has never been elaborated in either the show or the comics.
 
Secondly; there is NOT a “retcon” around Capper, you have clearly not realized that he had gone to Equestria also in the comics as in “the Nightmare Knights”, and the show has confirmed this by showing him in travel attire when the Royal Sisters had vacation. He went to Klugetown after the adventure with Luna when he stumbled upon Pinkie and the Big Mac, and then returned to Canterlot during “the Cosmos Arc”. He even got his private airship to travel between Klugetown and Canterlot. In facts; the background for Capper started with the comic “the Movie: Prequel” on June 28, 2017. The movie was released on October 6, 2017. McCarthy, who prepared the script for the film, was a little in doubt whether Capper should be a petty criminal conman from poor conditions or an ex-aristocrat who was in contact with the Storm King. This dispute ended with “Tails of Equestria: The Official Movie Sourcebook”, in which Capper’s background as an alley cat is established.
 
An alley cat who made success in Equestria where he earned good money as seen in “the Nigtmare Knights”, could still travel back and forth to Klugetown. So it’s not a retcon here. You can thank Ted Anderson for that, and in the end most fans have taken the alley cat Capper to heart. The actions in # 96 and # 97 are based on a continuation of “the Movie: Prequel” where the case with the harmony tree was partly overshadowed by a new character gallery, interesting information and Abyssinia and important revelations. Season 10, which tracked off with “the Zebra Arc” in # 90 and # 91, has been put back on track in # 96 and # 97.

Yeah well Gameloft isn’t considered canon. If it appeared on and/or mentioned in the show and movie, it’s canon. Otherwise, or until then, it’s not in other source material. Even the comics are not completely canon, especially since there is an retcon with Capper’s backstory in both the comic and movie bio, as well as a wardrobe plot hole with him. In the show, since the movie, he wears the suit Rarity made for him in all of his cameos and stayed in Equestria; in the comic, he continues to wear his duster jacket and lived in Klugetown until season 10. Gameloft must’ve associated Gallus with loyalty since he would join the guard, something Flash Magnus became a part of.

The Element of Magic is a combination of all the other five elements, so it’s more like the Element of Friendship. Twilight, Zecora, and Gallus discovered their elements when they were at low point. Equestria Daily did an editorial about why Gallus deserved the Element of Magic.
 
Oh and if we recall in The Last Problem, when the Mane Six gave us images of the characters they were close to, each of the Young Six were represented in the same pattern as the elements they represented in School Raze, and Gallus was in Twilight’s collection.

Generally I think going with the whole “Friendship is magic” idea. The element of Magic represents the person that friendship means the most to. Between Twilight Zecora and Gallus (if we assume the colours in school Raze means something).  
We have Twilight, who ignored friends due to overfocusing on her studies till she finally learned how great having them is.  
Zecora, who ended up leaving her friends and until they finally reunited, and she remembered what she was missing.  
and Gallus who from what we can gathered lived his whole live without friends or family until the school.
 
Amongst their groups, each one has the most reason to cling to their friendships for dear life.

I mean, the elements have changed names before, they don’t have to be the same virtues every, maybe each group has a different set of names for their elements.  
The Pillars had Sorcery, Strength, Courage, Beauty, Healing, and Hope.  
it seems when Celestia and Luna took them up, they became Magic, Honesty, Loyalty, Generosity, Kindness, and Laughter.  
And in the mirror world we see four of the elements on stained glass, being Flim and Flams Fairness, Trixie’s Humility, Derpy’s Wisdom, and Chrysalis’ Love.  
Word of god has said that if Sunset ever got an element, it would be Empathy.  
It’s possible the Student 6 and the Abyssinians all embody a completely different set of virtues to the Mane 6.  
It’d be nice if they got named, especially since the student 6 can talk with the spirit of Harmony. Have them bestow new titles to the new generation of bearers.

A good point. Zecora should not really be magical, as her best qualities are related to her skills rather than magical abilities, as the representative of the magiless zebras. Capper is a magical cat, but his magic is internal and latent, and is what gave him the anthro look that characterized all abyssinians in a world where normal felines exist. At least the Diamond Dogs are not magical, as they more seemed to have evolved rather than being shaped by magic as with the Abyssinians.
