I…honestly have nothing bad to say. That is a truly fantastic synopsis, and would have resulted in a much more fulfilling final arc than the one we got (plus it could have better connected the three final seasons). Still, we all know that a plot like that was probably doomed from the start, as the writers had no clue when the series would actually end, plus every season of FiM seemed to be designed to stand on its own, with a few recurring characters to connect the seasons together.
I would rewritten the last several seasons so it was planned ahead:
Starting from the end of Season 6, have him bring Chrysalis into his clutches, promising her great power and a chance to retake the hive as hers once again. Depending on whether people or agree or not about this choice, maybe even have Cozy be a secret apprentice to Grogar?
Through Season 7 to the middle of Season 8, his plans come to fruition and by that season finale, he takes over Equestria as the new ruler. Season 9 would then be our heroes taking the fight back to Grogar, ultimately beating him and destroying his evil essence forever.
Id say even then having his character go about it the wrong way is a interesting storyline, while i feel he adequately did enough to be forgiven by putting himself in danger to free the heroes and staying behind to help hold off the baddies without any powers.
I do think they should have had him immediately broken when he lose his magic like in s4 and should have had him go even more above and beyond on screen to make up, like have him offering not to have his magic again but them giving it to him because they feel he is a far better being than he was before.

Isn’t a bad idea Discord grooming Twilight to be ruler, the bad thing is why he need to reunite a group of villains, 2 of them hurted him, to make that?
Would have been better just sending Twilight to a pocket dimension where she must rule smooze people to know how to rule, but everything went wrong despiste Discord’s good intentions. That don’t hurt fluttershy and nobody else, it’s only Discord trying to help twilight. She don’t need to defeat villains to be a queen, just need to rule.
The simple fact he is the father of the monsters and a necromancer gives him potential to be a more memorable character, the creppiest one in MLP G4 like Lich from adventure time and if they put everything i said to make a opposite parallelism to Twilight and conection with the villains, you get the best villain in FiM.

He’s not boring if given development. Albert Wesker and Mr Freeze could fall under the same category if they weren’t given development. In a way, its a way of denying someone that could become badass.
Because Grogar would have a class of opposite parallelism. Twilight is a person who have fear to be the future ruler of Equestria because she is not ready for a great role like that meanwhile Grogar was a emperor who wants to take back his empyre, no matter what. Making it a Past vs Future fight and a class of metaphor of how changes can be unpleasant for one but one should simply grow as a person rather than get stuck in nostalgia. Being a message that fits well with the last season of a series that lasted 10 years and that we must move on.
Even the league of evil have a theme if you erase Cozy from the formula, fallen royals.
Chrysalis denies Thorax is a better king than her.
Tirek have his family like past ghost that tortures him.
Sombra just wants to take back his crystal empire.
And can explore the origin of Discord with the “Father of monsters” thing, i am not exactly talking about Grogar being Discord’s father, that can be other things that actually can affect Discord.
An antagonist that allows Twilight to grow as a person and make villains doubt their ideas by discovering that getting stuck in the past is unhealthy, and thus reforming them by unleashing themselves from their past to change as people.
The problem with the whole season 9 thing is that I just wanted to grab something cool like rounding up the villains for a final battle that involves a lot of characters rather than a story that brings a lot to the characters, giving a conclusion to their arcs.
He planned to be a safety net in case things got too bad and trusted her and the mane 6 to handle plus he saw it as a means to a end to make sure twilight was a great ruler of equestria
Discord in “Ending Of The End”: forces dangerous criminals to attack Fluttershy
Well he gained it her trust or at least love back once he risked his life to free the ponies and stayed behind to help hold off the three without any powers.
I do want to say though that as mad as anypony was with him they believed him and knew he was telling the truth when he said he had good intentions in his own chaotic way which is why none of them abandoned him or suggested turning him to stone or locking him up.
This can be seen by how twilight puts him in her shield as well and were worried when he was making a deal with the three that sounded like he was sacrificing himself.
The fact that a Fluttercorder actually enjoyed that ending is quite unbelievable, since I personally thought that ending only served to ruin Fluttershy’s trust in Discord.
And something i kinda agree with actually

Nah. Wouldn’t have been so great if they were playing second fiddle. Besides, it was likely they would be reformed if that was the case
Previous villains would have still been there, remember? They would have just been led by Grogar, who would have been like Palpatine from Star Wars, Darkseid from DC Comics, or Thanos from Marvel: the character controlling everyone from behind the scenes. He would have made for an awesome villain for the final season of the show.
Exactly! This is what I am thinking! I think that they were trying to make Grogar into a Palpatine-like figure, where he was pulling the strings on a variety of villainous incidents throughout the series. Still, on order to pull that off, they would have had to have teased Grogar in a previous season. The fact that they didn’t is a shame, because he had so much potential as a character that would have pushed Twilight and the Mane Six to their limits in an effort to defend Equestria from a greater threat than they have ever faced before.
Discord: EY! I’m sorry, alright!
As far as G4 is concerned he would have just been some new guy who showed up
Perhaps in a way, but I was leaning more in having a previous villain as the final villain, and we got three
