That’s nothing new.
It’s evidence there’s something in there behind the slacker.
She was chosen because it was Ponyville’s turn to supply the water. So she’s the best in a small, mostly earth pony town.
I do believe she’s very good at being a weatherpony, but let’s not overstate the evidence here.

Not just a normal weather pony. If she was the one picked to lead the whole thing with getting water to Cloudsdale in “Hurricane Fluttershy”, she must actually be pretty damn good at her job.
