Yeah, and there was plenty of grass around them, so the hay must be preferable in some way. As with cooked meat > raw meat.
We’ve seen them eat hay. Right off the bale recently.
That’s a course, dry grass. Typical lawn would be much easier to chew and digest.
Could be. But we haven’t seen them eat grass, while we have seen them eat fruit, so I figure a possible reason for that is that raw grass is too much hassle for modern pony stomachs to digest.
A closer analogy might be… well, not really an analogy.
Have you never eaten fruit right off the tree?
I expect it’d be like eating raw meat; inferior in every way to prepared food.
It’s okay since some people will prefer this version.
