I think though, that since the show isn’t over, maybe this will still be an issue that they’ll touch on. You are right, when you say that she is still cold to him, even if she has improved. And that he is under-appreciated. But I feel that, since he is in fact her number 1 assistant, that he will try his best to help her adjust to princess life, and realize that she should appreciate him more. It will probably help her continue to grow into a better princess.

I feel that since the writers did give him more spotlight this season, it shows that they do pay attention to the character. So we shouldn’t give up on the show acknowledgin his contributions.

I concede your points about her treating him better as time goes on, and how that relates to her growth as a friend. Still, the issue remains that she’s very cold to him, despite knowing full well that she’s probably the most important pony in his life, and how the show refuses to acknowledge his competence and contributions.

To be fair, while he was her first friend, it was the ponies who taught her how to act like a friend. In the first episode, you can tell, she didn’t really treat spike that well. As season 2-3 keep moving she really warmed up to him. Does he deserve a mention? Most definitely, but what I like about him is that, he’s a nice character. He doesn’t hold a grudge, and he didn’t seem to even care. Plus, if it weren’t for the ponies, she’d still treat him like JUST an assistant, and not know how to treat him like a friend.

Twilight Sparkle is having a bad day. Poor Twilight.

Oh wait, who’s right by her side, helping her deal with the issues, as always?

It’s Spike! As always!

When things get really, really good for Twilight at the end of the episode, like when she discovers how to repair the spell, is making her speech about how much she loves her friends, or being congratulated by her family, where’s Spike?

Why, thrown under the bus! As always!
