Description

The tirade in the comic was so harsh and out of character that I decided to take a crack at rewriting it. First off, made it rhyme, taking some of the show’s examples for how lenient she can be with her rhyming structure. I also replaced the ‘your mom dead fuck you’ part with something lighter/fun. Finally, like with other times Zecora corrects someone’s behavior, I had her turn her “poem” into a lesson. Feels more in character, I think.

Sorry about the text sizes changing, didn’t feel like editing the bubbles between edits/rewriting bits and pieces of this new fanscript. Left the last panel in to show that the new rewrite fits the spirit of what was being conveyed by the original.

Anyways, could be better, but I think it’s already an improvement over ‘your mom dead fuck you’.

I agree. Having Zecora suddenly not rhyme when she’s that mad doesn’t seem out of character to me. In fact, Applejack noticed that later in the comic and even asked why she wasn’t rhyming. The whole point is that she dropped her usual wise and mystical self because she got so angry. Which indicates to the readers something is very wrong and deeply personal for her.

Fans in any fandom can be so touchy.

It was an example to show that more you know about a character, more you could understand it.

This story will give us more infos about Zecora, ad with theme we could undertand if something is IC for her or not.

Maybe because we didn’t know the character so well… Think about: what did we know about Zecora? She had very little screentime, it couldn’t be blunt because we never saw her so much to say this.

Celestia in the first seasons was always so calm and wise, but now, after years, she could be angry or silly and still IC.

Without fail, every assertion that something is “out of character” is someone who wants to repress any new facets of a characters personality. Status quo is more important than seeing someone act out in a new way.

Humans can’t be pigeon holed like that, and I’d hope ponies aren’t like that.

We only see Zecora be a fairly one note character. She’s the calm wise rhyming plot device.

So why are we not allowed to see her CRACK a bit?

I’m so sick of entitlement to control of character development that fans from all fandoms have.

People say it’s “out of character” but I think Azerdoe, in image >>2422730, sumed this scene up with their own story as it pretty much hits close to my own history.

Azerdoe:
Personally I like how she drops the accent and rhythmic tone of voice when she’s proper pissed. Cuts deeper as to me it shows it’s a coping mechanism for Zecora. That perhaps she does it for her own sake rather than purposely trying to be cryptic and vague in her speech. Adds another layer to her character instead of it being seen as “out of character”. Everyone is different and everyone has a means to cope in a world where they’ve suffered great loss or hardship that’s unbeknownst to others. I think Zecora just couldn’t take the bs AJ was spouting which triggered her inner insecurities and lashed out unintentionally. I’ve done the same many times. I had a way of conducting myself while in school and work, I was very timid and very quiet most of the time. But I still spoke with respect to everyone. But when people acted badly towards me which was reminiscent f past trauma I’ve suffered, my entire disposition and demeanour changed and people get frightened of me. They never expected me to say the things I did or do the things I would normally never do and thought of me as “completely out of character”.
I guess I relate to Zecora in a way, cause there’s only so much you can take before you drop the act and show who you really are underneath the mask of insecurity.

I agree with you. Zecora mentioning AJ’s mom was kind of dark. While i understood why Zecora had stopped rhyming because she had to get her idea across; I think your re-write made more sense that what the comic had.

Not to make light of your efforts, but AJ doesn’t have any problem with strawberries. Or any other fruit for that matter. Perhaps bananas, but otherwise that’s mostly just a fandom joke, and kind of a lame one to be honest, at least it would be a very lame joke to imply to be canon. Yes, she did have that confrontation with Strawberry Sunrise, but her hostility was about Sunrise’s blatant contempt for apples, not her love of strawberries.
