Last time I checked, Celestia and Luna were chosen to rule due to their special powers of being able to control the sun and moon. That’s their special talents and it just seems irresponsible to just fling those away because “we’re retired lol.” This could be because I hang out with friends who see Celestia and Luna as deities or something related to higher beings.  
Also, this would make Twilight a 24-hour zombie.
 
I bet its gonna use that damn amulet, which is a very irresponsible way of monitoring the sun and moon if you ask me.

So they no longer need to rely on them as much given all the times they were in danger? Because the power is inextricably tied to the right to rule?
 
Still that is a good point I’ve wondered myself. Hopefully Season 10 will fill that in.

Can someone who read the comic tell me if Twilight raised the sun with her own power, the devise from “Between Dark and Dawn”, or was it not shown?
