What’s that? A full 24 hours of service? My my…
in a certain sense you have a point. i never played that game competitively, or in a tournament way. i also would not play against WAACfags, WYSIWYG purists and other rules lawyer types, so those sorts of arguments never would come up or would hamper a game.
i still dont like how 8th and 9th work
If you ever played 7th, you’d knew how wrong what you wrote were. Also, you’re completely wrong about 8th, what was removed was pointless minutia over tiny shifts in arc of vehicle or arguing about placement of pie plates. Now game is vastly more strategic and faster, and arguing movement (which is now more important than ever) doesn’t matter sadly proves you have no idea.
Its all good. If you live in Georgia and you ever want to play a game hit me up
i did not mean positioning of whole units on a table, but of individual models them selves. in 8th they dont seem to be anything more than a wound token. but like you said the game has changed since release, and i have not done more than look at the rules when they came out and watched some battle reports on youtube.
I’d disagree that positioning is no longer important but it doesn’t really matter to argue the point. Most important thing is to play whatever you think is fun. Shame nobody around you wants to play Horus Heresy. I always hear its really fun.
8th fundamentally changed the tactical aspect of the game, and made it more like a deck building game. there is really no point in having and moving models around on the tabletop now since it seems they have removed any impact that positioning had. now it seems it would be easier to just use a token to represent a unit rather than a squad of models. removing the old vehicles, blasts and templates just made it so much more uninteresting. plus i really liked how the 7th psychic phase, and powers worked.
i would say 7th was far superior, but i dont really play 7th. me and my group sort of made a bunch of house rules that modifies 7th into something else. plus none of us were the WAAC tourney competitive players, so we avoided some of that sort of BS from 7th as it was.
i primarily played eldar, but have guard and astartes as well. plus i have inherited some others, like some orcs, chaos, and tau. i would like to play horus heresy, but there is no one in my area that plays it, and well i am not in the mood just to buy and paint up a display force.
I miss so many things from 7th (blast templates, armor facings, and some other things)and I always thought 8th was very bare on launch. However I think 8th has turned out to be a lot of fun. I’m a guard player. So I only really play in my friend group and I haven’t seen every army rules wise on the table top before but they all are pretty distinct now that the 8e codexes and supplements are finished. Lore wise I agree. The more heroic noble tone of 8e is not my cup of tea. All the teases for 9e so far look like it is gonna get toned down a bit hopefully. Also, I think primaris marines are dumb. As somebody who didn’t like 8th edition at the start I think its worth giving it a second chance however. What army do you play?
Most of the things changing in 9th are for the better. No more -2 or -3 to hit causing plasma guns to explode on 3 or lower is going to be nice. Changes to CP and CP penalties for people who make soup lists is also great. Obviously we’ll see if its all they are cracking it up to be I think 9th will just be a tweak of 8th but with the really gamey stuff fixed.
I stared in 5th and 8th has been fine so far. 9th to me seems like a nightmare, lots of things changing for no real reason that I can see.
Never really got in to 8th edition myself.
Learning from a WAAC player didn’t help, but there were a lot of things I didn’t like about the new rules.
Might give 9th a chance, but it seems very wordy. Probably trying to avoid loopholes, but it’s not very clear.
Gets Hot hasn’t been a rule for a while now. In 8th (and presumably 9th as well) you have to actually declare that you’re overcharging your plasma guns in order for 1s to cause a mortal wound, normal shots won’t do anything.

>Stay safe Cadia mare and re roll those ones
Plasma weapons overheat on a 1. Then you have to roll an armour save for that model.
Guard save on a 5+, so not likely to make it.
“Your training is complete, here’s a weapon that has a 1 in 6 chance of killing you instead of the enemy every time you fire it!”
