You gotta be careful with augmentations. It’s an easy rabbit hole to tumble down. Ponies in Eventide who have ended up replacing every bit of their body with machinery are called “lugnuts”. Scootaloo here had the restraint to get as few augmentations as possible, even just wearing a type of contact lens to protect her eyes from wind instead of getting her eyes replaced with mechanical ones :D

Discord too. Like, he got away with being the leader of the most deadly enemy faction to ever exist in canon. That’d be like if after WW2 it was discovered the true leader of the Nazis was Anthony Eden and that not only did Winston Churchill know, but didn’t care XD

This scientist got a hold of Scoot, having heard of a foreign national hero who was apparently disabled, and basically sweet-talked her with the whole science-vs-nature thing. Saying stuff like how it’s unfair that Scootaloo can’t fly for no reason other than nature said so, and claiming how it was easily possible to fix with science. Basically said “if you’re interested we can pick you up tomorrow”. Keep in mind Scootaloo has no clue who this scientist is, but said scientist communicated with Scootaloo via a homemade flying diminutive sentient robot drone pony, so Scootaloo was pretty thoroughly convinced she could do it XD

Hah, see? You can have peace! You just need a shit-ton of nuclear bombs to force the enemy to a compromise XD.

Hmm… I can get that they have infrared vision/nightvision or any other fancy stuff in their eyes and augmented hearing (Maybe being capable of working as a sonar), but I’m not sure if radars would actually work like that as you say; Radars work by an transmitter installation emitting/producing concentrated electromagnetic waves that reflect off objects and return back to a receiver installation, and it’s often used for either target acquisition or tracking, hence why you see those fascinating dishes, circunferences or antennaes on radars, which often work both for transmitters and receivers.

While there’s phased array radars that don’t require dishes and just a lot of mini antennaes inside (The ones I showed before), I doubt you can outfit something like that in the eyes of a pony, unless they’re really big, nobody said that a Crotale can’t be macro too :P

Pretty much terrifying, Starlight Glimmer almost destroyed everything but now they’re buddies and surprise, she didn’t even see a jail (I’m not agaisnt her, I damn love Starly, but let’s face it).

If you mean someone else, then it’s kind of funny how they’re following the steps of a mad scientist (Though then again, being a mad scientist probably wouldn’t mean that whatever he did good is going to get rejected, the again, ponies, wouldn’t be surprised they disagree with something someone of Eventide does because ponies go and employ argumentum ad hominem fallacies [You’re from Eventide, so absolutely any theory you have is worth a bunch of rubbish good sir]).

Well, makes sense, and if anything she already got her natural wings removed so I’m pretty sure she can either way get some new parts in the future if she wants to or she wants to make Rainbow Dash jealous. :P

Yeah, pretty much like that. Radar-wise, it’d be connected to their own eyes and ears. Maybe they’re could be additional enhancements to serve like a real radar, like night/thermal vision or things like that :D

It’s definitely not something you want to think too deeply about since it is kind of a messed up concept. Though, a lot of concepts in the show are messed up when you give them deeper thought. Like, imagine living in a world where people could get away with global terrorist threats because he was buddies with the country’s leader. That’d be horrifying XD

Ahhhh, now I understand; The SAMs are placed on the sides of pony like the SAM platform where they’re on the sides of the main body. Then again, what about the radar installation? I believe that Crotale would require some sort of radar system or, if they’re Active Radar Fire-and-Forget missiles, something to detect the aircraft/unfortunate pony. Either way I think I’m understanding a bit more, like, they would kinda look like this:

Oh yeah, I think I already knew that they had emotions and free-thinking. But I meant it more of a ‘Need to’ rather than a ‘Can do’. For instance, Miriska works like the real Antonov. But I doubt that if she goes somewhere else they’re going to be able to maintain her (Electricity, Oil, Repairs, etcétera). Or, for example: a Hawker Hotspur plane pony. The real one wasn’t even used in combat by the Royal Air Force, so. What is this guy going to do? He’s an object pony and has an use like an object pony. But he’s not needed in the Air Force. And that defeats the purpose of her life.

Ahh, alright then, yeah, still I believe that she’s going to hate doors. Having to take out your wings and put on some covers every time you want to go inside somewhere else sounds awful xD.

Way too expensive? You’re talking about a pony that’s longtime friends with Princess Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash. I’m pretty sure that either of the two can do something to get her said wings :P. Then again, probably she got those wings with her own funding.

The four tube-shaped launchers would be on their sides in lieu of wings, but they’re plug and play. The pony can take them off, and then has coat-colored “blank” pieces that fit over them to cover the machinery underneath that they connect to. Those launchers are heavy and cumbersome, so there’s really no need to keep them connected all the time :D

That’s the irony of it, is the scientist who invented them (the same mad scientist from above) basically stumbled ass-backward into developing free-thinking self-aware artificial intelligence.

They’re free-thinking. They even have the same wants and needs and emotions as real ponies. All object ponies enjoy their “job” and they want to do it (barring some weird edge cases of course), but they’re basically free to do whatever they want. “Owning” an object pony is a real commitment since it’s more a long-term mutual agreement to take care of each other :D

Just sort of insecure. As happy as Dashie is that Scoot can finally fly, she’s also a little insecure that Scoot can theoretically fly faster than she can XD

Same as the Crotale Pony. They can be taken off and covered with “blank” orange pieces that basically make her look like an earth pony. The folding wings were way too expensive XD

How do you fit a Crotale system to a pony’s sides? I mean, I might be traditional, but I can’t really find the mental image of Fluttershy with some Crotale systems on her sides, neither blank covers. Probably I’m hitting hard the dumb.

For that matter, you say that in your headcanon plane ponies are built, which makes perfect sense, but in that case I would imagine they only can make one role, let’s take Miriska for example, or Air Liner, both would most likely be built around the prospect of carrying cargo/passengers and as such they wouldn’t be able to do anything else. Or can they simply leave their jobs and go do something else? From what you say, Miriska only option is to stay at her job to not die, which sounds awful.

Dash feels threatened, it’s an invasion to her dominions/territories and she feels threatened when suddenly a random Scoot2.0 comes out nowhere to claim them xD.

Oh… for that matter… now that I see Scoot clearly, she has… wings… and two turbofans in what seems like pylons… how she’s able to take a nap without rolling around and breaking them? XD. Figured out that would be a problem for regular plane ponies but now Scootaloo has to deal with the fact that she can only sleep flat on the ground xD. Aside from that, what other issues do Scoots has to deal with? What other difficulties she faces with her new augmentation? I would imagine that with her new solid metal wings she’s gonna hate doors xD.

I figure it was a mad scientist (same one who made these darlings) who wanted to test how her tech would work on an Equestrian pony with their much-higher levels of inherent magic. I haven’t drawn this character yet, but she’s basically a combination of Dr. Wily from Mega Man, Dr. Robotnik from Sonic, and Lash from Advance Wars: completely insane, does NOT care about the consequences or ramifications of her work, but she earnestly does love all of her creations :D

Remember you don’t want to pack too much stuff on since that creates more variables. Pack on too much tech and you might not be able to walk anymore without additional augments for strength or balance. A simple Crotale system can be fitted to one’s sides without additional augments, and could be taken off and replaced with blank covers for “civilian” mode :D

It depends on if they’re an augmentee or fully mechanical. Scoots here only has mechanical wings, mechanical ears, and a few mechanical additions to her legs but she’s still a living breathing pony so she still can (and needs to) eat and drink. Miriska was built, so 100% mechanical with no biological parts. She only needs fuel, oil, electricity, etc. An augmentee going fully mechanical is an option, but that’d be a pretty huge step to undertake :D

Yeah, would imagine that indeed getting those augmentations is quite expensive in itself. Now I actually wonder how the heck Scootaloo got the money to get those wings+engines combo, I mean, they seem quite expensive, Oh wait, I know how! Cronysm! The advantages of both having a friend in the Wonderbolts and having a friend that’s a Princess.

I would imagine the second choice is not an option. I mean, you have to know how the hell you work anyways, I don’t think you can simply get your trusty engineer everytime you leak oil. Also, just like pegasus should probably learn about lift and how to flap their wings correctly, plane ponies would also need to know how to adjust these darn flaps when landing and taking off, among other things like not drinking Avgas when you have turbofans. Granted, we humas are not all doctors to know everything about ourselves, but they [Cyborgs/plane ponies] should atleast have some knowledge.

While I don’t have any objections with fuel, it can be handwaved that magic can repair minor damage (Of course it’s not going to fix the wing that a lucky 50mm shell ripped off, but more like flak shrapnel), keep in mind that we’re in a magic wonderland (And in fact, I kinda headcanon that plane ponies are magical in their own way, ways normal pegasi aren’t), and also, would definitely suck if you end up accidentally flexing your metal wing a bit too much and having to go to the mechanic for the nth time already.

Hah, now I definitely want to see Scoots here having some F-15 stuff mounted and loading some nice AMRAAMs.

Crotale? Dude that’s a virgin, if you want a real Chad the go up to the Pantsir-S1.

Or atleast a Otomatic, that one doesn’t need those wonky missiles and has a nice 76mm OTO Melara to do the job.

That was exactly my headcanon, that while small stuff could be just biological, really big stuff (And full on plane ponies by extension) actually needed some oil And I really don’t want to know how much your An-225 Mriya plane pony consumes daily of oil. Though… in your headcanon, are plane ponies and sever augmentees able to eat regular food? Or oil is the only thing they can get? Would suck to have only oil to try.

Of course, this is not Battlefield 1942 where you can simply hover an airfield and get the ground crew to toss bombs at you to rearm yourself xD.

Also, what’s Rainbow Dash opinion on Scootaloo’s new shiny wings? Can’t help but find her envious of those, atleast if she hasn’t gotten the entire F-35 structure for herself too

Pretty much. Like, the other big tradeoff of course is that it’s expensive, and you either need to be knowledgeable about the technology yourself or pretty much have a dedicated mechanic to do it for you. Damage needs to be repaired rather than it healing naturally, a power source like fuel is necessary, etc. It’s higher performance, but also much less efficient :D

And yeah totally. They could absolutely arm themselves with missiles, machine guns, bombs, etc. There’s other kinds too though, like a plane pony armed with bombs stops thinking they’re gangster real quick when the Crotale Pony rolls up to the party :P

For me, fuel could be one or the other depending on the augments. Small augmentations could just be powered biologically, but a full flight system would need fuel and weapon systems would need ammunition :D

Well, I’ve gotta say that I probably was confusing beforehand; I was making a joke of “Your casual Rainbow Dash” as your casual average Pegasus, not exactly Rainbow Dash, apologies :P. But yeah, can agree that Rainbow Dash got the superpower lottery and she’s sure to brag it :P.

So, from what I can see of your point of view, only super XTREME ponies like Spitfire or Rainbow Dash are able of beating a plane pony augmented, the rest are going to need both find a leprechaun and get some good luck and go towards a training through hell routine?

Of course, can imagine plane ponies going to the nearest lab and getting a sleek swept wing and some Butt Engines afterburning turbofans just to get past that darn 100mph upgrade. But, now that you made me thing of just adding stuff… I would guess plane ponies in your world are also capable of, well… of course, carrying ordnance and ammunition that regular ponies simply can’t, I mean, your darn cute Antonov An-225 is literally the living proof of carrying heavy shit around.

But… How do you portray fuel consumption in plane ponies compared to regular biological ponies? I guess the upside of a pony is that they wouldn’t require fuel to fly (Even a Pegasus that just woke up would be able to fly, crashing into everything, but flying nonetheless, a plane pony meanwhile, would require fuel in dat tank or not be able to use their trusty butt engines depending of the engine and type of aircraft, but not getting into that here). Or do you imagine fuel as something else entirely with similar roots to regular biological ponies

Also, I just prefer comparing stuff overall, don’t tell me to not think of one side better than the other, is my entire philosophy! :P

Anything is better than average though, be it mechanical augments, training and discipline, or just being born lucky with power. Dashie’s not average, she’s one of the fastest flyers in Equestia, so it stands to reason she’d be able to compete against or even overcome the limitations of a mechanically augmented pony; your average pony stands about as much chance of overcoming an augmentee as they do overcoming Rainbow Dash, which is to say none at all :D
 
Also countering it is the ingenuity factor and an augmentee’s ability to upgrade, change, and add further augmentations. Rainbow Dash beats an augmented pony who’s top speed is a hard 100mph in the air, but nothing is stopping him from hitting the lab, getting his wings altered to a more aerodynamic shape and swapping out the engines, and coming back with a hard 130mph top speed. It’s not so much that one is “better” than the other, so much as there are different factors that determine what each one can do and how they can do it :D

I do like your idea, sounds creative, but please, don’t reach that point where people go like “Mechanical stuff are better than average, unless everybodyelse suddenly get DETERMINATION BOOST and beat the crap out of an entire F-15 air wing just because DETERMINATION lolololol… _{And Sidewinders R-77 Vympels.} From my point of view, the idea of mechanical stuff being limited is reasonable, but from what I’ve seen, this only makes them weaker because suddenly your casual Rainbow Dash can beat an X-15 using that “Afterburner/adrenaline boost”.
 
For that matter, while the idea of limitations still makes sense, wouldn’t they still be able to get somewhat (If slightly) better/stronger? You can’t train a tank, true, a tank will always be the same tank pony, but you can make it go “better than the rest” with proper maintenance/modifications. I guess that would be an upside of mechanical augments and mechanical lifeforms in general: “Your arm is old? Replace it with a particle accelerator cannon! Yay!”

If we’re talking of plane ponies the size of ponies, then yeah, maybe you can fit a refueling boom on Scootaloo’s mouth, provided she doesn’t go to fast and jams that thing on her throat.
 
If you’re talking about plane ponies plane sized and Scootaloo, being originally a pony, being pony sized, she would have quite a hard time to get that big ass boom in her mouth in the first place.

The way I like to imagine it is mechanical augments are stronger than magic or biological stuff, but the trade-off is they have a hard written-in-stone power cap. Their max speed and acceleration are high but can never be exceeded, while a pony’s might be slower but they could, through sheer will or desperation or what have you, exceed their limitations. A desperate or motivated enough Dashie could exceed her limits and fly faster than she should be able to adrenaline-style, while those wings will NEVER exceed their limits :D

Keep in mind that Rainbow Dash is from a fantasy setting while the aircraft’s that tend to get ponified are from Real Life: Rainbow Dash would probably not even get able to lift herself with wings smaller than her whole body… Not to mention that she would probably have some toasted buns when trying to attain a casual 5 Mach speed IRL without protection. Meanwhile aircraft like the Boeing 787 do indeed fly in this world, and are perfectly capable of breaking the sound barrier (Sometimes, as Badumsquish noted, I guess going further than that causes damage on the airframe though). So. Considering how Real Life has way more physics limitations. It’s safe to think that if we get a Boeing 787 into MLP they would most likely work a little better than in Real Life.
 
(TL;DR: Real Life has too much physics for comparison comfort xD)
