Bingo. We have a winner.

[edit: Caveat: I’m not sure the version of Flash that was being used in the end even still qualified as “Flash”, it was so heavily leveraged from Flash 8, and given that the transition to Adobe Animate was … let’s just call it “more painful than just starting over again in something else” I’ve sometimes wondered how much of the end of the series was due to the end of life of Flash. I know that’s not all of it, but still … all those assets in a slowly rotting framework couldn’t have made anyone who needed to meet deadlines feel warm and fuzzy].

PS: This is way off topic for the image, and would probably be better to discuss in a forum thread.

I dunno, you’d be surprised, some are quite into the series, though some prefer earlier seasons.

I think the “thick line” style has been around sense Hanna Barbara popularized it in the 1960s, but 1930s cartoons kinda had that style too. There’s been several variations on it, and with TVs being more HD now, and animation done digitally nowadays, the thick lines, and flaws of the style have become more noticeable, therefore some don’t like the style in modern cartoons, as much as older ones, because the digital HD format makes it look more flat, and wiggly.

Regardless, some cartoons can pull off the style well like MLP & Gravity Falls.

I doubt many bronies even follow the franchise that closely. It’s more about the comunity aspect, I suppose.

True, at first, it was quite simple and basic, though quite pleasing on the eyes. Later seasons did bump the animation quite a bit, and it’s still a nice vibe.

Calarts is popular because it just fits the times. The 2010’s had it’s own unique aestetic. Simple and clean. Wasn’t “thick outline” animation popular in the late 90’s/early 2000’s?

Is there a way to delete my comment, or at least not receive a notification every time someone else comments on this? Sorry, but I really hate his panel and the story it’s part of and don’t want a ping every time someone else leaves a comment here.

Probably, but I assume he’d get flack for that too, especially given the negative reaction to “Pony Life.”
Though, I think he quit the series after all the trolling, and bashing he was getting. (Some fans can’t comprehend there’s a difference between “criticising,” and “bashing.”)

I wish more bronies were more open to alternative art or drawing styles honestly… Heck, when I first saw the G4 FIM Lauren Faust art style for the show, (before I became a brony) I actually didn’t like it at first, but then it grew on me, and I like the wide range of expressions the characters have.

I remember bronies had a cow over the undersea storybook art, (which I thought was cute, well detailed, and reminiscent of G1 kinda) or even the movie’s slightly altered art style. (And not to mention all the people shouting “CalArts!” at “Pony Life.” Ironically, Lauren Fast was a CalArts student.)

It’s like bronies only want ponies to look one way.
