Somepony just touched a chord

I love how this story plays with the emotions and expectations of the readers. When Rust kidnapped Lullaby I wanted Tempest to beat him to a pulp to give him a taste of his own medicine. Then Tempest went into Punisher mode and I was like “Alright, I think you’re enjoying this waaaay to much” and then we got this little flashback, showing that Rusty himself received his fair share of violence during childhood.
 
He’s not a nice pony, but now I feel pity for him. If it hadn’t been born into this horrible family, he could actually have been a decent pony.
 
I think he probably even genuinely cares about Winter Rye and wants to avenge his death. Rye was still a horrible parent to his daughter, but he took in Rust and threaten him with respect, unlike the rest of the family. Tempest accidentally killing the closest thing he had to a real father, probably hit him really hard.
 
Oh and yes, I don’t think Lullaby wants to live with you any longer Tempest. You screwed up, pretty big.
