It’s not the last episode that was the problem, it was the two episodes before it.

I liked the episode as a what happened next story, but the lesson about still being friends despite being apart felt a bit pointless when you consider the pillars. It was shown that despite them going off and doing their own things in the world they were still close friends.

It’s clear they didn’t have the time/budget if you look at the second half of GUIHTD. Spur is a lazy design and there’s a ton of animation errors, the animation quality takes a sharp downturn about 10 minutes into the episode. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if The Last Problem was one of the first S9 episodes to be animated (The fact only Wind Sprint and Clear Sky are there suggest they were the only S9 characters besides Grogar who had been made at the time, or at least that Spur and Biscuit didn’t settle on their final designs until June 20…)

Grogar wasn’t the main villain. He was just discord in disguise. Discord did not get turned into stone. The three other villains weren’t even allowed to redeem themselves and were killed off.

The whole thing felt cheap production-wise. From the flagrantly reused assets, to reusing an Equestria Girls song as the final song of the show. If they didn’t have the time or budget to make the unique assets they needed, I’d have rather they hadn’t bothered with an epilogue at all.
