Well you’re not completely wrong about that, Gabby was just there for the plot then anything else.

Those facts are a invalid after Dragon Dropped. Because of Gabby, Rarity genuinely wants to spend time with Spike and do what he likes.

I like Gabby, but I don’t really like the idea of her being with Spike. It almost seems as if she came back only to be an alternative for Rarity. Spike just isn’t a type of guy who gives up on his love for no reasonand by reason I don’t mean the fact that Rarity used to mistreat him. I am convinced that Spike still loves Rarity, the other possible explanation is that he is flirting with both of them.
 
Also, I think Ember is a good candidate too. The only girl who got flustered because of Spike

Smolder: NO. She lacks any of the traits Spike cares for. Ember is a better candidate if you want to ship him with a dragon.
