  1. The official material is presenting the designs in order to promote them, while the fanart is trying to improve on or joke about them.  
  2. The fanartists didn’t create the designs, so the blame for any poor artistic choices doesn’t fall on them unless they add flaws not present in the original product.  
  3. The official stuff was created by a large team and most likely went through multiple stages of review, while the fanart has 1-2 creators per picture and no review team at all on average, so fanart having a lower production quality is both forgivable and expected.  
  4. The fanart just plain looks better.
     
    It’s really not hard to figure out at all.
