Honestly, I hardly see anyone talk about Button nowadays, and such so I don’t know if he’s still that popular. I even see some hate over him, especially ‘shipping him with Sweetie nowadays. (Which has become taboo in some brony fan circles.)  
Button’s popularity pales in comparison to characters like Derpy.
 
I think he was more popular back in the Season 2 days. Same for Rumble.

Mostly this fandom made him popular thanks to those animations, like most of the background ponies.

True, Rumble was pretty popular for awhile, and even commonly ‘shipped with Scootaloo, or Sweetie.
 
3,443 images is actually alot more then alot of other bit characters. Plus, Button’s been around longer, as well, so it’s not really a fair comparison. (And they’re still very close with only a hundred+ image gap between them. So I don’t understand trying to compete them.)

I remember back then Button being popular before JanAnimations ever adapted him actually, because he was the first canon gamer pony. So it wasn’t just, because of JanAnimations. Some people who don’t even watch those still like Button.

While it wasn’t the same vein, Rumble actually was pretty popular when he showed up back in Hurricane Fluttershy, due to being one of the few colts back then that was actually likable.

I never seen those Button Mash videos but I saw Marks and Rec so I don’t give a shit about Button Mash

Exactly, he’s popular because a talented member of our community noticed him, made some highly influential works about him, and the rest of the community carried that carried him forward past their.
 
Rumble did not catch anyone’s attention in that same way, no one capable of influencing the rest of the community, at least.

Button Mash is out of the show, he was in Hearts and Hooves Day, which predates Button’s Adventure.
